Re: Marathon Guitar Case Build.

Hi, two that come to mind.
Luthier sUpplies.com, in Queensland a small selection, and a larger selection from Romak.

Lazy susan worktable...

I find this unit very helpful when doing jobs that require me to work all around a guitar, such as in installing binding, purfling, and also fitting tops and backs. I can just sit [rarely] or stand in the same spot. And in my cramped workshop that’s a bonus. 1 (2).JPG As you may notice the metal par...

Re: Left handed Selmer

Hi, I can understand why the customer was happy, that's a nice-looking instrument from any angle. I remember suggesting to my left-handed son, that if he is going to learn to play guitar, he should start right-handed from the very beginning. He did, so when it came time for me to build him a guitar ...

Re: Walnut bend

Hi again, I just came across these pics. After the first failure, see the front side, I did what is seen in the next pic. To get the perfect bend out of the second set I wrapped the whole sandwich in foil as well. This pic shows the sides just taken out of the mould. SAM_2314.JPG SAM_2312.JPG I did ...

Re: Walnut bend

Hi, I have bent Walnut without issue, but then I have had mahogany slit on me. I use the same sandwich setup but with a different heat source. I have heat bulbs in my bender heating from under the side pack with a blanket on the top of the pack under the top slat. I will also apply pre-heat to the w...

Hi Martin, sorry to hear about your door stop, I use a wooden wedge, cheaper than your Ozito. My one has not got to the doorstop stage yet, I’ve only used it for 10 years now. I have 13 routers, many set up for special use. Only three of them are Makita, and one is my first that I acquired in ...

Hi Bob, I did not mention it earlier but, the handle shown was one of 8, one for each file. I did not want to change files either.

Re: Nut files modified.

Hi Bob, the inserted file is a loose fit in a slot, and then I have a thin hardwood shim that I push in that holds the file really tight. Should that fail over time I have another method I have used before that uses two screws one at each end. but I think this will work and was far quicker and easie...

Re: Tommy a 000 style guitar

Hi guys, Thanks Alan and Mark for your interest. Alan, it was you who introduced me to the 000-style guitar when you ordered one from me many years ago. Something about those dimensions that's works for me. Good volume and great tone, if I get it right. Mark, I have two tests left now, my next build...

Hi, Here is another router project I completed this year. The original router had a depth adjustment that could not be operated if the fence was used close to the router bit, so I could not do incremental depths of cut without moving the fence. A stupid arrangement, using the large adjustment tool s...

Tommy a 000 style guitar

Hi, this guitar is not named after a gold mine on the Charters Towers goldfields as others usually are, but after a long-time mate, Tom, who passed away after a long illness. The back and sides are from a large slab of African Walnut Tom gave me before he passed, saying he will not get a chance to u...

Re: Contact info wanted Please.

Hi again, I got onto Stewmac with the email address they sent me. Thanks to all the members who had some input. My reason for contacting them was to let them know that I was not happy with the fact that on several occasions after I have placed an order, I get advised of a 20% discount offer a day or...

Hi, I have included a few photos that may give food for thought, they have worked well for me. Neck grain orientation when not on the true quarter sawn. Three pieces with laminations. Neck reinforcement using adjustable rod and carbon Fiber. And carbon fiber reinforcement at the neck block to stop t...

Re: Contact info wanted Please.

Hi Martin, thanks for that info. before I posted this I thought that maybe Srewmac has a way that flags their name when it's used out there, and maybe I was correct. Soon after seeing your reply, I got a Text from Stewmac asking if I had a review to make, how about that? I texted back asking for an ...

Contact info wanted Please.

Hi, does anybody out there have a way of contacting Stewmac besides placing an order? I can find no "Contact Us" provision on their website. If I can't contact them, they might see my comments if I put them here. My last email bounced back.
Thanks, Taff

Nut files modified.

Hi, I have a set of these Music Nomad diamond nut files, and they work fine in the cutting department, but for me, they are too small, and with my hand on the yellow handle it restricts my view of the job. So to make them more in line with my other nut files, I did as shown in the photo. It also per...

Re: Shop listening recommendations

Hi, I forgot to mention this earlier, but I have a small TV in the workshop from years ago when, at times, I used to work at night.
I have now fitted a decent speaker to it and often play the Audio channels for music that suits.

Hi, I have always used the first option. My braces stop at the sides and I trim the braces to fit. This way I find that when the plates are fitted the sides are better held in place, never had any issues.

Re: Binding Router story- all done.

Hi again, here is the rest of the story... Fitting a larger collar to the router base… I thought that the plastic collar supplied had a narrow surface in contact with the guitar top, so I made a new one a bit wider out of ebony. I thought the original might fall into the purfling slot that I normall...

Binding Router story...

Hi, After many years of using my old binding router setup shown here, I finally bought and set up a factory-made unit. As seen in the early photos I am prone to over-engineering some jigs. There are a lot of photos covering putting this jig into service, so I will have to break it up somehow. 1. Old...
