That's another stunner there, Rod.
Lovely bursting job to boot !

Re: Any Good Pickup Winders In Oz You Can Suggest :)
Mick Brierley's setup is a little more refined than most. Full-time and very busy shipping worldwide. Custom wound pickups to your specific requirements with great home grown personal service from South Oz. What's not to like about that ! Got to support the local winders, especially when they...

Sensational, Rod. Love the macro photos . It shows such a high level of detail in your builds.
I've done a few builds using CA to grainfill Blackwood and other timbers also. It works really, really well, but keep your eye protection and respirator close at hand.

Re: Wattyl grain filler
I've used Timbermate as a grainfill then thinned nitro coats on nearly every build I've done. In fact I tried epoxy but wasn't entirely happy with results on the end grain. I've got nothing but great results with the Timbermate then nitro method entirely. As Kim alluded to, sealers are a second rate...

Re: "The first cut is the sweetest" [New saw]
Thanks for posting this, Taff. I'm at the crossroads of working out which table saw to buy and which ones to steer clear of and although the only minus I see for my own usage and this machine is the larger 30mm arbor, I'm very interested to find out how precise the whole machine is once set u...

Re: Factory machined or Handcrafted?
I found Jim's website to be a great source of inspiration on many levels. Firstly to the point that Jim started out building typically the way most of us build a guitar now (by hand) and has used not just his building talents from the very beginning but also a savvy business brain to find a market a...

What happens if the next one buzzes like the first, only to be solved
that it's by the player's soft fretting touch?
Do you replace it for a third, or put them at fault?
Certainly can end up a can of worms, I guess.
Really like the uke, Peter.

I've been receiving an increased level of emails from suppliers from the sub continent of late. They are certainly getting info from ANZLF registers as has happened to many others on here too. I'm now in the habit of deleting them after I check here whether any of these companies have received a goo...

Re: Importing Wood
Glad to see that the ALS site has changed for the better. It used to annoy me every time I got the till, and found myself deleting an item or two to get me under my spend quota. (usually under the good wife's watchful eye  ) I also try to keep the bucks local, but depending on what's required ...

I've always found customs to be pretty good to me....touch wood..... I haven't bought any timber from Stewmac , other than cauls and radius blocks. One parcel out of probably the last 30 tonewood orders from the U.S. got opened up and checked. From memory it was an order of Quilt maple bookmatched t...

Re: Shielding Copper or Shielding Paint??
Hmm, the Stew-mac conductive/shielding paint doesn't or shouldn't have a use by date as it is waterbased . Once it starts to thicken up, you add water to thin down to your desired flow. I've had the same big can for a few years and stir it up and mix it to the desired flow out each time. If the can ...

Welcome Alex, Which part of Vic are you from? Knowing a more precise area may help pinpoint someone who can really help you out a little better. I get my Mirotone pre-cat Clear and thinners from both Allboard Distributors in Bayswater and also Milsome auto paints in Fern Tree Gully. For actual solid...

Re: My new fret slotting saw
I made something similar from scratch as well.
I had a Stew-mac fret blade with a 5/8" bore and went down to Bunnings and picked up an ozito table saw for $112 . Chucked everything but the actual motor assy. and built a box around it with ball-bearing hinges.

This is a real eye opener this thread, and although I know relatively nothing about it nor thought previously about buying a kit and building for vacuum pressing, I'm going to jump in and get on board. This post certainly came at the right time :cl I'm still making my mind on 10" or 12" A question to those with a 10" saw if I may................ Have you ever regretted not getting a larger 12" saw at all ? Just want to make sure I don't find myself suffering size envy/regret if I get a 10"
