Re: Ibex ruler observation

The ibex fret ruler is indexed off the position of the high E, NOT the middle of the saddle. It says that on the ruler.

Re: A few Ukulele build questions

Doing it without removing the binding or purfling is the hard way, but reasonably straight forward when you get your head around it.

Re: OUtsourcing Inlays

G'day and welcome to the forum Beau, some nice inlay design on your site. Jim Thank you kind sir, None of my inlays are from Gurian. The flowers I do myself and the letters are from Andy Depaul. At $4 each, I can't buy the shell for that let alone time! I've been meaning to get on here for years bu...

Re: OUtsourcing Inlays

I work(ed) at Gilet Guitars in Sydney and we get ours done by George Gurian. He does both inlay and headplates with NO gaps. I think each head plate comes out at about $35 or $40 each (inlayed mop logo and wood). Not much for a perfect job with everything done. There are initial set up costs though....

Re: Soundboard fibre tear out

Also, I think quality of tape has little to do with fiber lift. High tack/strong stickiness is not great, but is unrelated to tape cost/quality. Low strength/thin tape is annoying as the tape breaks. Again, unrelated to cost. There is only a few thousands of an inch between thin and thick and really...

Re: Soundboard fibre tear out

Sand to 120 or 180(ish)
wash coat of Shellac (helps with router tear out)
Use Down cut spiral router cutters
Pull tape off slowly across the grain or slightly in the opposite direction of any grain runout (helps with fiber lift)
