For what I know, I would refinish. Even though it burns in quite well, it is going to leave a spot mark, It may work okay, but you might not be able to completly erase that spot you went through. And you need a good scuff of 320 to allow lacquer to bond well. Honestly, finishing job is hard to maste...

Yep, 2.6mm is rather thick for just about any sides. Typical is no more than 2.2mm, then down to 1.8mm or a bit less on cutaways, thinner on stuff like bloodwood ( brosimum rubescens ). I like to fret after applying the finish. Prevent chipping/lifting the finish on the side of the fb and you don't get that bleed you get.

anyway, best tape I found, is the 3M green masking tape number 401+

guys guys guys filling gap with glue is not the way. it shrinks, sink and darker. Even if you really think you fill it good. first souldnt of have THAT MUCH of gap. poor woodworking at the first place, sorry. minor gap can happen. if does, it woulndt be that gapped. i say FIL-STIK ... it's a semi-ha...
