Re: Left Brain Lutherie Book

I thought I would pop over and check postal rates and found this a notice that USPS is temporarily suspending service to numerous countries. You lot are on the list. The book will have to go via FEDEX or DHL.

Re: Bending Torrified Maple

Hi Andrew, I wonder if a wood softener might help get it done. Here in the States, I can get Supersoft from a marquetry supply house. I don't know if you have something similar there. Might be worth a look around. https://www.veneersupplies.com/products/Super-Soft-2-Veneer-Softener-Conditioner.html

I saw someone mention somewhere they cover their japsaw handles with a pool noodle to help with their arthritis
That's a great idea. I'm going to give this a go when I get the shop back together.
Thanks for sharing.

I remember your lute. I was totally blown away by the rosette. I saw it sitting on the bench, but thought you were done with it.

Re: Rejigged Workshop

Congrats on finishing the house and putting your shop back together. That is a serious stash of wood. That should keep you busy for quite a while. Thanks for the shot of your library. I saw a few books I might go looking for.

What's your first new build going to be?

Re: Donations drive to help cover forum running costs

Good Morning Martin.
It's been a few years since your last post in this thread. Thought I'd pop in and ask how are things going? Is it time to toss a few coins in the coffers?

Re: New Tassie member(Don't hold that against me!!)

Happy New Year Lillian, and it is great to think that your new workshop is going to be built soon. Can you show us some pictures as it goes up, or when it is done? I would love to see a “Lillian’s shed” thread on the forum. Happy New Year Mark. Happy New Years to everyone. I think I can make that h...

Re: New Tassie member(Don't hold that against me!!)

Lillian’s suggestion to look up a Men’s Shed is a good one (sorry Lillian - that is the name that they go by in Australia. They do not exclude women, but the name makes a very gendered assumption about who would want to use them). It could give you good access to bigger tools like a thickness sande...

Zandit, I grew up in the South (Virginia) and I would have sworn that you were from Tennessee or Kentucky. That was a great video. I loved the song. Thanks for sharing. Good luck figuring out where you are going to build your next one. I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing your next creation.

You did a fantastic job, it sounds wonderful. And if I didn't know better I'd swear that the singer hailed from my neck of the woods. I have to echo Martin and Mark. You really can do your second one by yourself. And if you really have been bitten, you'll be miserable until you start building. You d...

Re: Moving Equipment

Good call Dave. I'll separate the motor tomorrow and secure it to the base. I decided not to trust the movers with certain things, the drum sander being one of them. All the tone wood. The lumber stash. Yeah, I'll be renting a small cargo truck and filling it up with the delicate stuff. Not that I r...

Re: Moving Equipment

Thanks, I'll try to box it up, wrap it up so that the moving gorillas don't break it. Well looking at the quote, I'd say we're paying by the meter and the oz. It's cheaper for me to sell off the drill press and lathe than it is to move it. I'll save money buying new when I get down there. I'...

Moving Equipment

Good morning all. Moving day is almost upon us. Since we moving about 26500 km, I'm letting the burly blokes with the big truck do this for me. So I was wonder if I should prep the sander some how for the move. I was thinking of putting a piece of the white kinda squishy foam between the table and t...

Mark, I have a spare copy of the book, still in its shrink wrapping. I accidently bought two of them. I am happy to sell it. Perhaps you could send me a personal message, and we can sort out the details. Mike.

Love the greenhouse! Great idea. Couldn't help noticing the retaining wall in the new one is leaning in...not enough support there! Would love to see some pictures of that when you get going. I thought it was a great idea especially since it can heat and cool. And we will definitely need the coolin...

Re: Shed Building

When camping in the hot Queensland sun a few years ago, I erected a tarpaulin over my tent with about a one foot air gap between the tarp and the tent roof. The temperature with the tarp had dropped around 20 degrees at mid day when compared to the day before with no shade from the tarp. So contain...

Re: Shed Building

Richard, the plan, such as it is, is to put doors on the side or cut out sections of the sides on the concrete pad area. Most likely I'll go with doors. This will give a big room in the center that can be used for gatherings, and I can lock the doors to keep the noisy ones out of the shops. From wha...

Shed Building

So we have signed the paperwork for our current house and have signed a contract for our future home. We'll be down-sizing a bit, so nothing can go in the house long term. I'm mulling over my options for building a shop/shed. One of my options is to use shipping containers, possible two 40 footers p...
