Re: Equation 4.4-2

It’s a bit hard to make out all the detail in the screenshot, but I think the difference between yours and mine is that I’ve only got two parentheses following C3/3, and the third one is moved to after C7/2.

Bruce, it might be your neutral axis calculation - I'm getting 0.0043333 for that?

Re: Queensland Maple and Queensland Maple?

Queensland Maple was first described/named by a German guy - Ferdinand von Mueller. He was one of Australia’s great botanists describing hundreds of species. He did end up becoming a Naturalised British subject in Australia, so we still have a tenuous option of giving the Brits some stick if we choo...

Re: Attention all Lurkers

Still kicking, just not much woodworking lately. I’ve got a heap of half-finished projects in the cupboard that I’ll return to one day, mostly spending my time at kids-sports activities lately. While I only pop in occasionally these days, it is good to see what everyone is up to. Keep up the good wo...

I hope you like the new theme. I believe you can change it back to the old one in your profile somewhere if you don't like the new one. If someone wants to test it and let me know I'd appreciate it. I can always install a few more themes so you can personalise the look of the forum to something you...

Have you guys got a spring-loaded pin on yours? Not as good as two free hands, but it gives you a bit more room and control to slide the paper in.

Re: No more High Mountain Lutz?

As Shane mentioned, we dropped in on him for a visit back in August. I had originally asked him if he could point me in the right direction for a bit of bushwalking - I like the look of standing trees as well as what they look like on the inside. Any of you who have travelled through BC will already...

Re: NSW bushfires, OCT 2013

I've just spent this week working with the Incident Management Team looking after the eastern section of the State Mine fire that's been knocking on Eric and Sebastian's doors. I only dealt with the overnight updates to the fire maps, so haven't had to deal with any of the extreme conditions that th...

Re: Equation 1.7-1

I've just run your data through my program and get much the same answer as you, Craig. So it seems that the Selmer guitars do have a very low effective mass! Your intermediate numbers look odd, though! It looks like K has been calculated in N/mm (instead of N/m) which in turn has modified m, which ...

Re: Equation 1.7-1

Craig - I've just plugged your numbers in & I'm getting a result of 0.01156 s/kg (or, 11.56 x 10-3 s/kg). I get the same answer as you did if I leave the deflection in mm (instead of converting to metres). I reckon that the s refers to seconds (from pulling apart K 's Newtons into kg*metres/second^2...

Re: mortiser or drill press mortise attachment

The consensus on most of the woodworking forums seems to be that most of the mortising add ons for drill presses arent worth it and a dedicated mortiser is the go. Any comments would be appreciated. Sorry, this isn't going to help you Martin, but this guy's passionate review is pretty amusing: http...

Well, it's good to have you back, but the thought of you hunched over your dining room table up in your mountain bunker assembling rocket engines (evil genius-style rather than backyard enthusiast) really appealed. :D

Well, maybe there's two courses here, the one proposed at Bega and perhaps another up north. Have to say that Coffs is a lot closer to me than Brissie. Maybe the Brissie guys can head to Coffs, if Steve is able to host? Sorry, I'd love to be in a position to host, but I don't even have a shed. Happ...

Hey everyone! This is my first post so I'll get the intro out of the way: My name's Nate, I'm just a student builder in the second year of a luthiery program invading your board from the states (though I did live in Auckland for a time). I hope to stick around a while. Anyway. I've had the Gore/Gil...
