I also use a citrus tung oil like Jeremy, have done so for many years. Also a light wipe over when changing strings keeps the boards looking fantastic.
This is what I use http://www.howardproducts.com.au/orange ... d-oil.html
I have no connection with this company

I can imagine that crack would have been a disapointment but I would think repairable, before turning it into parts, surely.

Thanks Steve and Wayne, That was exactly what I wanted to know, much appreciated. Steve the bloodwood would look pretty sexy, but I believe its hard to bend if it has some runout or is not perfectly quartered ,but for sexy, bloodwood I think is a great suggestion. Bend many to get what you want :D T...

Hi all, I have been thinking about building a macassar ebony medium SS, only because I like the look of this timber, and whilst I often use it for fretboards and bridges I have never played nor even held one in my hands where it has been used for back and sides . Can anyone advise what this wood is l...

Re: Tru Oil alternatives
I use a tung oil, that is a finish that oxidises, the chinese have used it for thousands of years and there are still things finished with it that still exist today and the finish is still good . Trouble is that pure tung oil has the consistency of honey but when mixed with something like orange oil...

Yes I agree with Martin, but unfortunately for me , the market wont even pay me cost  People tell me that they can get a Cole Clark for $1800 and they have a known name,so mine could at most be worth only half that. I might have to bury a guitar for a couple of thousand years to break even :D C...

Re: falcate Failure with an unexpected result
Yes Trevor, Sorry about that I should have worded it better, It was a glue line failure not a brace failure. Also I should have mentioned that it has not had an easy life, it has been gigged it has been to many barbies and Jams, It has had beer over it, and was once dropped by a clown from about wai...

Or is it due to the small time luthier taking business away from the large manufacturers ?

falcate Failure with an unexpected result
An Interesting failure or rather an unexpected result for me to learn from and think about. In 2012, I made this guitar. http://www.anzlf.com/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=4786&p=56161&hilit=Australian+red+cedar#p56161 It has been my "go to guitar" for almost 5 years now, however I was replacing the strings ...

I have almost finished an electric build with 2 Humbuckers, basic les paul type wiring, but have the bridge pup cutting in and out, I have checked all solder joints with a multimeter and all seem ok , when the bridge pup goes silent and I start probing wi...

Re: Top or Back First
It seems that its a personal choice or a choice for the style or way one builds , as I said before ,I normally put the back first ,but with my current build I have decided to go with top first so that I can check my neck angle, pre fretboad hopefully get that geometry closer than I have in the past, ...
