Re: Calipers for soundboard

Jezuz Taff.....that caliper gauge is built like a brick shit house! reminds me of my Dads first car....a bright blue Morris Oxford. That car was so solid you could drive it flat tack into a brick wall...and the wall would fall down.

Never heard the term "backsawn" before. I assume that it means the opposite of "quartersawn" which we use on our side of the world. Just curious.-Bob

Re: Laminated linings

All of the stock I use for laminated linings is back sawn. Grain direction will affect ease of bending for thicker stock but since you're bending up thin stock it shouldn't really matter.

Re: Ideas for breaking locktight

When installing end jacks I stick the jack on the end of a long chopstick and guide the jack into the hole using same. The chopstick keeps the jack stationary while I tighten up the nuts.

The same chop stick is used to reset the Gateway on my Tesla Powerwall.....chopsticks are so handy! :D

Re: Ideas for breaking locktight

Loctite has a product to dissolve loctite...acetone will probably also work but you'd need to keep it off wiring etc.

Re: Ideas for breaking locktight

A tricky one. You could try heating the jack with a large soldering iron..heat should travel up the threaded barrel without causing too much damage to surrounding wood.

Looking good. The finishing schedule interests me. 10 spit coats before going in the aquacoat? Might try this myself. Ive been using Aquacoat on my last few builds but results haven't been that outstanding I find that with Tas blackwood you need to really get a good seal of the wood prior to applyi...

Knots......small ones can be dealt with with CA. A larger knot in a side set....put a patch on the back side and then fill from outside using resin.

Re: Classical Build - Toscano Guitars Intensive

Those sealer coats were for preventing any discolourisation from the Aquacoat on the blackwood. After leveling that back a little and then filling with Aquacoat, it’s on to what I assume would be a usual french polishing schedule. I'm used to 2-3 spit coats prior to pore filling...that's with India...
