Re: Very slow weissenborn wip

Nice weisse Steve :cl Just for something different here is my latest board getting a coat of fiberglass. And nice fish! I'm just finishing up a hollow board as well - 8" mini mal in paulownia & recycled western red cedar. The glass & fill coats went on ok IMG_7593.JPG But the gloss coat didn't self ...

Very nice, what does he get if he sticks at his lessons for two years?
He gets to point out how bad my playing technique is

Brazilian Rosewood Parlour Classical

Finished this last year. Thought I'd posted it, but apparantly not. A parlour sized, completely non-traditional, falcate braced classical, using an undersized set of Brazilian Rosewood I got from Jeremy (J F Custom) way back in 2011. Decoratively it was deliberately kept simple. A gift to my younges...

Re: Re Coating Danish Oil too Quickly.....Problems??

I've been using Danish Oil on my necks for a while now.

I'd just give each body another coat and burnish it with 400 grit wet & dry, then wipe off & leave it to dry.

Re: Gore/Gilet/ Concepts & Falcate Bracing in a Uke Build

Well my 8 year old son is now over 15 years old! I had thought that as your kids get older you gain more personal (read workshop) time. Unfortunately it appears to be the total opposite :( I still manage to get a uke or two built each year - I've pretty much stuck to the falcate braced design of tha...

Acoustic Bass Guitar

Hi guys. I'm still alive & still building. Took forever to get this big bertha out of the workshop. I used my 17" Archtop mold for the body shape. 34" scale. WRC top recycled after 50 years as part of someone's house deck. Indian Rosewood fingerboard, binding & rosette. Falcate Bracing. Owner is a p...

I'm using Danish Oil more & more on necks.
It feels nicer to me, and most customers seem to think so too.

Re: Matching Nut files to string gauge when making a nut - how critical is the match?

Just as an add to this, I recently had to make a bass guitar nut and only had my 6 string nut files. To make the wider slots I put 2 files together (whichever pair ended up matching closest to the string thickness). The pair were usually a thicker & a thinner file, so I'd swap the 2 files around reg...

Re: Baritone Uke strings

Hi Bruce, As the others have said, they stretch a lot. Unwind & re-tighten. Leave some length after the post until they've truely settled - it makes it easier to get a good grip when tightening the string up again. Don't get impatient and try to artificially stretch Nylgut strings. They won't stretc...

Acoustic Bass Guitar Saddle Slot & Intonation??

Am getting close to finishing this big beastie and need some final info from those who know. 34" scale, 4 string ABG. What angle is the saddle slot for general intonation across the strings? And how much extra did you add to the scale for saddle/bridge placement? I'm planning on using a thick saddle...

ABG Headstock Thickness

Can anyone advise on the TOTAL headstock thickness of an Acoustic Bass Guitar.

The plans I've got (which I'm only using as a guide) say 17mm, but that seems a bit thick.

I'm using Gotoh Compact Bass Tuners from Stewmac.

Thanks

I was loaned an Aprilia Mana for a few weeks.
It surprised me.
I wasn't expecting to enjoy an automatic motorcycle, but it was heaps of fun!

Re: Not dead - Just Busy

I don't ride at night anymore - too many close calls with Roos & Wombats in the last 10 years here in 'Berra.
But then the 20 years before that commuting on a bike in Sydney & Brisbane were worse for animals on the roads.

Re: Not dead - Just Busy

Thanks Richard, she is a nice bike.
Although the original factory map made her a bit cantankerous at times.
I was calling her The Shrew for a while.
Got that sorted now thanks to the Guzzi online community (kinda like you guys here).
Funnily enough, her happy spot is right about 4000 :D

Re: Paulownia Soundboard

Hi Jim, It is a tapered screw for venting when the board is not in use. (You screw it out only half way so you dont lose it!) A ply 'fish-bone' frame is skinned with paulownia making a hollow board. The air inside the board expands & contracts so the vent allows this to occur without damaging the bo...
