Re: Bolt On Neck System With No Neck Angle Adjustments Needed.

Hi Jim, Apologies for the late response. I don't get much time to go onto the forum. This bolt on method will work as well as any bolt on system where the fingerboard is glued to the soundboard. The beauty of this method is that the neck angle is set in the build and there is no extra work required ...

Re: Bolt On Neck System With No Neck Angle Adjustments Needed.

Thanks Jim. The first angle which is simply your center line is set when you glue the top on. I have 6mm dowels in the solera which sit in the truss rod slot and holds the neck straight with the top. The top can be clamped in place through the sound hole or in this case I actually left excess on the...

Bolt On Neck System With No Neck Angle Adjustments Needed.

Early this year I was talking with Gerard Gilet about the frustration of trying to teach students the bolt on method for neck attachments to guitar body. He mentioned the idea of a Spanish heel type setup where the neck can be unbolted off the body. I took that concept and came up with the following...

Shaping a Spanish Heel

In this video I'm shaping a Spanish Heel mostly with chisels. The Spanish heel seems to be a bit old fashioned these days with a lot of makers preferring bolt on's. I will only use Spanish Heels for flamenco guitars to minimize weight. I use the same shaping technique for shaping bolt on heels. http...

Re: Side bending on a hot pipe demo

Side bending on a hot pipe is about practice and sensitivity to the material. I find when I'm bending I have a window of opportunity to get the shape I'm after as the timber starts to relax but then it will start to harden up if I go too long and I've lost my chance. Secret is if I leave it over nig...

Side bending on a hot pipe demo

Bending sides on a hot pipe can be lots of fun. It's one of my most favorite parts of guitar building. In this 12min video I bend a piece of Spanish Cypress from start to finish using some techniques I've worked out over the last 10 years. Recently I tried to bend some figured Jarah in the same way....

Looks like an OK way to shape the heel. Much more fun shaping the heel by hand with a chisel.
