Re: How to Change Pick Up Covers

Some people will hit the top of the pickup with a hair dryer or heat gun at a low setting, at the appropriate distance so as to melt some of the existing wax back onto the inside of the cover. Holding the pickup upside down so the wax runs between the cover and the bobbins. A new cover can be microp...

Re: Disaster

I'm beginning to wonder if the issue may have been caused by some glue creep between the braces and the soundboard...It's quite weird given the cupping on the finish side of the top, one would expect that at 45% the curve would have been in the opposite direction, and that re humidifying would make...

Re: Disaster

Not sure if I'm missing something here, but in order for the top to cup like that, it would mean the dry side is the side under the polyurethane. If the poly was the wet side, it would cup the other direction. As simso suggests, this seems more like a mismatch between the braces and the top, or that...

Re: Binding cleanup - Help

The white is porous. Many of the solutions proposed carry the risk of the black color bleeding into the side of the white, and then up to stain the white. You could try to get thin CA to wick into the top surface of the white, to seep in and protect from the color seeping up. Then, I might recommend...

Re: Dremel or trimmer

Normally I don't like inexpensive tools, and I'm not sure what is available to you locally. But if you're deciding how to budget, then I would say get the more expensive variable speed Dremels, but that it's alright to start with the cheapest, junkiest trimmer. It will work just fine for the light d...

Re: Most recent build

I have only played a lap slide since yesterday Frank do you do any online lessons? I'd be a terrible teacher. Mine is a 7-string made of spare parts many years ago, and I tune it straight like a guitar, no open tuning. Besides, what's to teach? If the note is flat, keep going. If it's sharp, then y...

Re: Falbo Intension Bridge

Well the most significant difference between the Intension design and things like the bridge doctor is that there are no touch-off points that transfer energy elsewhere. All the string tension is placed right there at the bridge area to drive the top from the center outward. And point of clarificati...

Re: Falbo Intension Bridge

I think Jim is right, there needs to be a delay to the signal not just a constant out of Phase. The comb filter effect is the result of this delay which results in some frequencies cancelling while others are reinforced. You don't get this with just a phase shift. Well yeah, Wikipedia is referring ...

Re: Falbo Intension Bridge

So we know from the physics that the long and cross dipole have two antinodes that are 180 degrees out of phase with each other (this should also apply to the monopole cause the antinode in the middle of the board is out of phase with the rim or any part on the other side of the monopole node). So ...

Re: Falbo Intension Bridge

Maybe this is off topic, but why is it that if I don't use terms lifted from someone's books or teachings, a formula from a physics professor, whether I agree to use an analysis method that mirrors one that you've used to verify things on a completely different design...that somehow the only conclus...

Re: Falbo Intension Bridge

I don't know you Frank and from what you have said in this thread so far (and in your videos) it seems to me that you don't have a great understanding of how a guitar works, I was just trying to establish if my impression was correct or incorrect. You're incorrect, but apparently I can't fix what's...

Re: Falbo Intension Bridge

Any chance you could just answer my simple question about how strings drive the top Frank? The link you shared does not relate to my simple question. Are you setting a trap right now? No I wouldn't answer a leading question in which you set the phrasing, then declare (twice) that it is a simple que...

Re: Falbo Intension Bridge

http://www.classicalguitardelcamp.com/viewtopic.php?t=101819 Trevor and Alan speak appropriately of it here. They are concluding/teaching that what we hear is a combination of in phase and out of phase sound. What I'm saying is that the way I drive the top produces less phase arguments. I don't wan...

Re: Falbo Intension Bridge

Maybe I'll explain it this way: Measuring frequency response is like measuring a monitor for brightness and color density. What I'm talking about would be like measuring the focus. Phase alignment is more akin to focus. The brightest, most colorful television may not be the clearest. In the same way...

Re: Falbo Intension Bridge

At the end of the day, if he is building these guitars and people like them enough to buy them, then good luck to him. He has my appreciation for taking the time to talk to us about what he is doing, he doesn't have to do that and I cannot see a big upside in it for him. And whether we agree with h...

Re: Falbo Intension Bridge

Okay, that bit I get. Easily demonstrated with a unboxed speaker heard from the side. That is, noise out the front, 180 degree out of phase noise out the back but in the middle nothing...and I guess relates to the difference between a cross dipole and monopole on guitar where the cross dipole moves...

Re: Falbo Intension Bridge

I don't think you're being obtuse at all. The link you posted is referencing electronic signal, whereas what we're dealing with is more in the realm of loudspeakers, drum heads, in that the convolution occurs in the air in and around the guitar. In an electric guitar signal for example, if I have tw...

Re: Falbo Intension Bridge

I apologize for being verbose. Will a frequency response chart tell you something? Yes of course. But it doesn't prove out anything with regard to phase alignment, the main question he was asking. If the question is, "how can we prove that your top is more phase aligned under string tension?" then i...

Re: Falbo Intension Bridge

Frequency response is a 3-dimensional occurrence. It's either a moment in time, frozen, or it's a composite of audio over time. When ignorant of the time constant it tells you very little. For example imagine you have a loudspeaker where the tweeter is poorly aligned with the woofer. I could put a m...

Re: Falbo Intension Bridge

Well, for simplicity's sake you can limit the discussion to the long dipole, and talk about how that differs from the trapeze/bridge arrangement on jazzers, violins, banjos, etc. My guitars aren't targeting the latter. They don't sound like trapeze tops. But that's the easiest way to see the most ob...
