Here's a Google spreadsheet that shows how to calculate thickness using the book's equations. The thickness is in column T.

Hope this helps,

Greg
Thankyou very much. That helps immensely!
Cheers :D

Re: Gore plate thickness maths help

Hi Dave. Thanks for that. I did notice, but only after i submitted the initial post, that there was a section of the forum dedicated to this topic, to which i am grateful and not at all surprised. I've read and re-read the books, but at the moment i find the equations difficult to understand. Hopefu...

I am trying to understand how the maths works for plate thicknesses as per the formulas in the Gore/Gilet book. i have my timber dimensions and density, and the frequencies FL, FC and Fd, but how do i transf...

Re: Reliable Hygrometer Calibration for the Luthier

I wasn't able to find potassium carbonate on the biomed web site, only the BI-carbonate. I have seen carbonate on the electronic bay shop cheap enough....

Just saw this little obrien guitars youtube clip on making your own hygrometer. Looks like a pretty neat little thing. I'll definitely give this a go just for fun!

Re: Reliable Hygrometer Calibration for the Luthier

I know this is an old post, but has anyway clarified whether or not the potassium BI-CARBONATE (KHCO3)- (the link that Mike Thomas posted) can be used with any success instead of potassium Carbonate (K2CO3)? I have some Potassium Bi-carb so i thought i'd give it a go...and it failed. It came back wi...

Re: Room dehumidifiers

I got my desiccant dehumidifier today, ran it for a few hours and was absolutely amazed at how quickly it bought my 3.5m x 3.0m room down from 60% RH to 45% RH, and took around 650ml water out of the air. Very happy.

Re: Room dehumidifiers

I've been thinking the same thing. Dehumidifiers??? I decided to get a desiccant type, being in Melbourne also, i have read these are better for the cooler climate. I'll let you know how it all goes when i get it. I did a test with the de-humidification function on the portable air conditioner unit ...

Re: Huon pine in a laminated neck?

just noticed they have 6mm x 4mm strip and bar... that should do the trick. Do you need to epoxy these in or just a snug fitting slot?

Re: Huon pine in a laminated neck?

Thanks Bob. So how did that little terz sound? I've not had to go down the carbon fibre path before, but since i'm there now... i might get really adventurous with the neck. Do you know of any Australian suppliers of CF neck rods? As we all know, postage from stewmac can be a deal breaker sometimes,...

Re: Huon pine in a laminated neck?

Thanks for your reply. I'd already convinced myself that it is worth giving it a go but I was beginning to thinking my idea was maybe a little on the crazy side! The spec's just seemed...good. I couldn't really find a reason NOT to try it, especially if it is in a laminate neck, which is why i put t...

Huon pine in a laminated neck?

Hi
I had this idea to laminate a neck using a huon pine centre strip (8mm - 10mm wide) in a Qld Maple neck. Has anyone here used huon in a laminated neck? The spec's on the wood data base for the 2 are quite similar.Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Bending Sides in a Fox Bender

I know this is an old post, but i have just set up a heat blanket for the 1st time and this post was useful. I'm bending blackwood, and covered the 1st side in paper before bending. Set blanket to 120 C, and it bent real easy, but slightly burnt inside the waist area. It'll sand out OK i'm sure. So ...
