Hey Ray I've had a similar comment so I sanded the finish off, tweaked the neck profile (he wanted it asymetrical) and wiped 2 coats of Osmo Polyx-Oil 3062 Clear Matt, he loved it I use Mirotone Mirobild AC 3606 cause it's easy and i'm familiar with it but it still polishes up with wear on the back ...

G'day Rodney For the ABS bindings i use "Weld-On" No 16, it says "Fast Set" on the tube and their not messing around! you need to move quick There is a tutorial on it, i think it's "Blues Creek Guitars" But again it's a US product so shipping may be an issue "Tarzans Grip" may do the same thing? depends on what your finish is and what you will except, your finish sanding so i'm sure it'll be as smooth as....... I'd roll with it and do a Matt Oil finish and string her up, or use a scraper and then sand out the cross grain marks and end up back to where you are now Some guitars just don't wan...

Thanks Guys I do have a soft spot for Tas Myrtle and have used it for bodies and necks I've found it varies in colour from Deep Reds to pale pink and even some green washes, but haven't seen a piece i didn't like The shellac does warm it up, that and UV, reminds me of American Cherry in that it dark...

Thanks Allen, yeah i think i did a couple of coats of shellac and then Mirotone NC.
Think i cut and buffed it too :D

Hey Allen got a question for ya, I'm finishing up a couple of Concert Ukuleles, whats the norm for string height at the 14th?

yep last week, Mirotone Gloss pre-cat, i reckon Allen is on the money, i wasn't happy with the neck profile so gave me a chance to tweak it. I'll get some sets from the inside where it's closer to quarter and use the outer for electrics
I've finally got the bandsaw set up to re-saw and i'm cutting anything that'll give a set or two

Just an update to my burning question "what timber is this?"
Well had a guy walk in and tell that the sticks i have came from CUB :gui and were tops from there vats
So does that make them Qld Kauri?
any thoughts?

Yep, i'm thinking your both right NZ Kauri
The quartered works out at 545Kg M3, did a burning splinter test and the ash was black
Looks like i'll be using NZ Kauri tops for while
