Re: Baritone Ukulele

It was a design that one of my daughters come up with. I have been rethinking the design and will go back to a traditional shape for the next one so I can work on a proper base to compare tone and resonance with. I certainly don’t pretend to know what I’m doing :(

Baritone Ukulele

Hello all, I have recently completed my fourth ukulele. As I have now built my daughters one each, I thought I had better build myself one to play along with them. I had someone give me some Blackwood that had come down in a storm, nice long lengths that I then milled with my Alaskan mill. Baritone ...

Re: Slim-line Tenor Ukulele

I hate to sound like a cheapskate but they are eBay specials. They are really quite good though for cheap tuners, nice and smooth, the chrome work on them is very good and the finish is great. The timber buttons are a bit so so, the outer edge has been sanded fast on worn out sandpaper to a point wh...

Re: Slim-line Tenor Ukulele

Thanks Trent, nice of you to say. Yes, the top just come together and due to the knot that was in it, it lent itself to being a heart shape. I would not have turned the sound hole into a heart if the grain ran straight up and down, it would have been a bit cliche I think.

Re: Slim-line Tenor Ukulele

Thanks Gaz, the tuners come with the timber buttons and are apparently rosewood of some sort, I may make my own and replace them at some point. I think it suits my daughter perfectly, nice voice without being overly loud. Cheers Cal.

Slim-line Tenor Ukulele

Hello all, I have not been on here for a while. Busy with work and everything else life throws at us. I have managed some shed time, building this little ukulele for my 6 year old daughter. It has a Camphor Laurel body with Tasmanian Myrtle bindings, the neck is Brazilian Mahogany and Claret Ash, fr...

Re: More on dust extraction

Yep, the bit of flex I have it attached to only gets static charge if I have it hooked up to my makeshift drum sanding attachment that is on my big belt sander, when I use that same bit of flex on my tablesaw or router table I don’t get any charge off it. I think it has to do with the speed of rotat...

Re: More on dust extraction

The static electricity issue causing sparks and subsequent fires has been debunked many times, static charge can be felt on the outside of the ducting sometimes, I have a bit of copper wire around one length of flex duct that is grounded to the shed that I brush up against regularly, only because th...

A quick ukulele

After building my daughters baritone ukulele I decided that I should really learn how to play. I found an 8 week beginner course close to home and decided to enroll. In all my enthusiasm I forgot that I don’t own a ukulele. I enrolled on the Tuesday and started to build when I got home from work Wed...

Re: More on dust extraction

Food for thought Pat...Bill Pentz.com , some say fanatical but, how much is your life worth?? I'm setting up my extraction system with a 4hp motor & 150mm spiral metal ducting with fittings. Bill site is a lot too wade thru, but a great guide line. I applaud your Extraction ideals Cal, great job!!!...

Re: More on dust extraction

Sorry if it’s too much information, I’m not sure as to what you’re plans are or the amount of information you have on the subject. What I have written only touches the surface of a safe environment and dust, I really started to take notice after I turned and finished a bowl from redgum. I had a head...
