However, I cannot afford to buy a stewmac mahogany neck blank. Does anyone have some mahogany they would like to sell me? Would like e...

Re: End Graft Install - Video

Nicely done.

I noticed your endgraft has a curve to it.
Do you have separate template to cut that or....?

Re: Baritone Ukulele

Nice.

But just a casual question:
Did you play with shape for tonal reasons or comfort.

Re: Indian Rosewood Sanding issue

Never used indian r/w, but this works for me when certain timber keeps burning...

I set the feed belt to top speed and run it thru taking off the smallest amount you can. I often run it thru 4-5 times before changing the height again.

Hope that helps you somehow,

Re: What difference lacquer makes to sound

I use Wattyl lacquer,
Very temperamental to the weather
And I’ve found that no matter how much thinners I flush with first, it always spits out little strings onto my project😫. Might be the $60 gun? Don’t know.

Want to move to mirrortone as I’ve heard it dries harder than wattyl....

Re: Side bend question...

Okay.

But I must say I’m a bit confused what you all mean by “Practice Sets” isn’t that a expensive... or do you mean from any hardwoods I have lying about??

Re: Side bend question...

Thanks Fisherman,
I think I’ll go with wrapping it like Allen described.

Will definitely make some formers up though...
is there any harm in making just one, doing one side, and then cutting a cutaway shape in it for the other side? (I plan to make a solid shape from laminated marine ply)

Re: Side bend question...

Thanks guys, I’ll more than likely scrape the cutaway section thinner... Also like the idea of some practice sets but I can’t see that becoming a reality. Re: Side bend question...

Thanks Allen,
I find that very easy to understand.
I’ll be bending some figured mahogany for a 00 acoustic cutaway, so 2mm thick?

Video looks simple also.
Thanks Martin.

Side bend question...

Hi all,
Can anybody point me towards some posts that describe in detail how to bend sides with an iron?
Thanks

Hi Pete,
Can’t give you advice on experience but I’m following some YouTube videos by “Blues creek guitars” for mine and I’ve found these very clear and straight forward. Worth a look.

Re: More on dust extraction

Here’s what I’ve ended up doing. 1hp Carbetec extractor shoots straight thru a hole in the shed, which I flanged with some pvc fittings. I actually decided to buy a table saw before a drumsander but the ducting I used to go from that to the dust extractor is an aluminium semirigid thing that I would...

Re: Timber identification

Could still be Jarrah. I have several different looking Jarrah boards in a tabletop I’m currently building,(all cut from the same forest) some of which looks very similar to your piece. This stuff is very light in weight and chips easily when routed or chiseled. Hope the picture works! Joseph E2A1B8...

Great looking guitar Wayne!
I especially like the arm rest and how it gently disappears up the guitar.

Re: Bridge gluing

The rims of the pins sit on the top of the bridge, so I thought counter-drilling might correct that.

There are no string slots in the bridge so unslotted pins would work..... I’ll give it a go!

Re: Bridge gluing

This was actually a repair job: the owner of the guitar kept it in the laundry and the bridge lifted a bit, causing the pins to pop out.
Slotted pins, and they only just pop when it’s almost tuned. Is counter-drilling the pin heads an option?

Maybe it was going to be the soundhole and they decided to use the other end, that’s as far as my thinking takes me.

Re: Bridge gluing

Yeah I have no idea that would be for, it is a whisker bigger than the pin holes.....
But I don’t know enough about guitars to think that that was abnormal in the first place as this is only my first luthiery related job.

Re: Bridge gluing

Well, glue up was a success.(apart from that chipped soundboard😡) Baking paper came off as if it was never glued, and I was surprised at the performance of my new reamer from eBay, especially being unbranded and $16!! 35738894-0D86-44A7-84B3-849AB5BA06E8.jpeg CD4B4B93-3E96-4C2E-9C60-5D68225AE6C9.jpe...
