20 Years on

Hi All, It has been a long time since my last post, so thought I would drop back into the forum with a few pics of the latest guitars. I have recently chalked up 20 years of making guitars and that time has literally flown by. It was a fairly small crowd in the early days and it is amazing to see ho...

Re: Lament

It is really quite easy to upload video to youtube and then embed the link into your posts. The video/Audio 'never' sounds as good as it does in the flesh because everything thing is so compressed. I usually add a note to the video if it is a poor quality recording. I like posting videos of my guita...

Re: jb Guitars - Custom DC

Thanks very much guys... SuperDave, It is AAAA flamed Maple. The key to getting a finish like this is the cutting back after spraying. Some people use buffing wheels with different grades of cutting compound but I use different grades of wet and dry sandpaper. I finish with 2000 grit and then use a ...

Not much more to add beyond what has already been said. Wonderful work - such nice ideas, balanced and gorgeous to look at.

Jeremy,

I somehow missed this thread first time around. That is a really wonderful looking guitar - just tremendous. I love the back contours and the inlay. Would love to hear some sound/video files too.

great job, jb

Re: Guitar Shielding

I use the Stewmac Carbon paint as well. I used the copper tape for years before trying the paint. I wouldn't mind giving that silver/copper paint a try - it looks pretty snazzy.

Re: Mixing shellac

To add to the other comments - I only use blonde shellac as it saves time at the end of the day. It is also invisible under other finishes. It is relatively cheap if you buy in bulk. I also use a coffee grinder (blade type) to grind the flakes beforehand. It really accelerates the dissolution but yo...

Nice job... Just another note on the pickup selection: make sure you have the right spacing on the pickup poles to match your bridge. If you have a strat style bridge then you will need slightly wider poles on the Pickups... cheers, jb

Micromesh touch up sticks

I use Micromesh touch up sticks fom stewmac and they work a treat. The shape and padding makes it easy to hold and push along the fret. 3 grits in one stick. I count how many times I push along each fret to ensure I don't make them uneven. The finest grit really brings up a nice shine. You can also ...

Seeaxe, thank you very much. I'm just in love with the color Jason. I don't build electrics, but I'm trying to figure out a way that I could get away with a color like that on an acoustic? Are you cutting your inlay by hand? Very tidy work. Allen, yes, it is a very cool colour. I mixed a ratio of 3 ...

jb Artist - Malachite/Emerald Green

Hi All, Here is my latest effort. It is similar to the last one but with a modification to the cut away. The top carve is also a little different with a bit of recurve at the edges. The colour is Malachite which is a mix of green and blue. Features: Piezo Acoustic Bridge, Coil switching, stereo jack...
