So what's he on about or perhaps just on ?? :drink1 Well, lets face it - we're all going to cark it sooner or later... Have you given much thought to what happens thereafter? Sorry no, I don't mean coming back as a multi-headed cow in a genetic experiment gone wrong :moo , or any other fanciful beli...

Hi Geoff. Most timber can find a use somewhere... Even as inlay or veneers. Electric guitars are a lot less constrained than acoustic timber choices. Most of your mentioned species could be used with care, but that is going by species rather than by "piece in hand" which is what you would need to as...

*snip* I will also keep my eyes out for his book but sounds like I won’t have much of a chance there… Jason Lollars' book did go out of print and fetched very high prices online thereafter. However you can purchase the book direct from his website again now - $60 for the 3rd revised edition. You do...

Re: Soundhole Re-Inforcing
Hey Nick. If you were particularly worried with the actual design you choose, you could consider CF (carbon fiber) to assist. Whether laminated in as a piece of sheet in the support sandwich, or with tow covering the backs of the letters to areas of support. The latter is what I did under the ribbon...

Hi Kim. You could also try Duncan at Gypsy Timbers - he is up in the north west too. I have not dealt with him for a few years now (haven't needed to), but he used to carry some very nice material. He preferred to supply in larger quantities though, but that may have changed over the time. A phone c...

Re: Gore medium SS clone #2-4
So now I'm a little confused... I interpreted what you said, to be that you pre-fabricated the bridge plate off the guitar. Meaning the timber and CF weave together in the go-bar deck, then once set, cleaned the CF back to the timber shape. Now I think (may be wrong) that Craig believes you j...

Very nice Allen, which frankly, is to be expected.
Beautiful striking colour in the blackwood and the ringed gidgee suits as well.
Always a nice compliment to get return customers...

Yep Martin, that's the way I went at first too. It works ok - The latest Parallels is at least without the issues some of the earlier versions had. But I agree, very irritating to boot that up just for the one thing... So in the end I just bought a cheap old PC (less than $100) to keep in the worksh...

Bugger :( :( Yep - Bruce had his boot full of tops to do too...  Still, in all honesty Craig, I don't necessarily think it was a huge bargain at $450ish. Consider that they sell for $700ish new, though not with a stand. Pick one up on sale or at a woodshow (usually packaged with a st...

I don't really want to hijack this thread but...I will anyway... I was gluing up some non-guitar related stuff with PU glue and was cleaning up the fizz whilst it was still wet. I spread it around a bit with a paper towel dampened with acetone. When I came back, I had a nice pore fill and no fizz. ...

Wow Bob! That looks great in all Huon - very well dressed. 8) Sorry I can't help with any Birdseye Huon. Re: Titebond liquid hide glue for the bridge?
Avoid.
I believe I was told once it also contains formaldehyde (?) to keep it 'liquid'. Whatever - it simply does not set as hard or have the structural integrity of true HHG. They are very different beasts. Don't use it - particularly for such a stressed joint as the bridge.

Finish is my good old Ubeaut Hard Shellac, applied with my psuedo french polishing method. I will get around to spraying nitroc again, but it's been a while now & I still had some Hard Shellac in the bottle. It's funny you say that - I'm looking at the opposite at present! For two reasons; somewhat...

Hey Oakey. Graham at Loggerheads is certainly one of the best for Outback timbers, as in Gidgee or Mulga. I've known him and used his timber for many years. Good prices and excellent quality and depending on what you want, prompt service. I say this as he does do custom cutting to some extent too, b...

Late pickup on this thread Martin and I've been waiting to see it too  Congrats nevertheless. It's all been said, but that's a great looking little uke and a good job with the French Polish. Thanks for the pics Craig - I've been waiting to see how it all came together. Beautiful Sassafras and fine work indeed. Oh and that bridge did match the fretboard and binding didn't it ? Handy. Two quick questions - What finish did you apply and what strings did you try out ? Congrats. :cl Jeremy.
