Re: Gotoh SGi510 mini tuners

I have some regular sized 510s I just received for a new build and found out that they are meant for a slim headstock. Mine is around 14mm total thickness (I need to measure to be 100% sure) and with the supplied washer, All I can get is about 1.5 turns of the nut. Not sure how high the string hole ...

Re: Changes to Reg of International Trade in CITES

Looks like it only applies to the following though: •finished musical instruments, finished musical instrument parts and finished musical instruments accessories (see definitions below); and •finished products to a maximum of 10kg of rosewood per shipment. Would a set of back and sides fit in the ca...

Re: Amateur mess up, do I start over or make raised fretboard...

Thank you for the sugestions. I think that since this is a learning build, I will simply add a wedge under the fingerboard. if i cut it from the same board as the fretboard and flip it under, it may look fine especially to the un trained eye.

Re: Bending Sides issue

I recently bent Ebiara sides, soaked in water and used an iron. I got a cupping between the grain lines and a few cracks on the edges.. The second set was birdseye maple which I bent dry and they bent perfect without any burning or issues.

I won't be soaking next time.

Amateur mess up, do I start over or make raised fretboard...

I recently completed my first build with some parts from a kit, primarily the bent sides, top and back. The rest I made.. It turned out great so I got hooked and now want to build every combination of guitar possible.. haha.. So I started two scratch builds, one out of Ebiara / Spruce (got ripples i...

Re: How do I fix this wavy side..

Thank you for the suggestions. I went ahead and glued the sides together, installed the neck and tail block and kerfing. I will scrape the worst out until i feel its getting too thin.

Re: How do I fix this wavy side..

I thought about that but I’m sitting at 2.2mm right now and the wave/ripple is about 0.3mm deep so if I scrape flush, I’ll be at 1.8mm or so. Not sure if that will be thick enough and don’t have any experience doing this, well other then one build... It’s a shallow body and only about 100mm deep so ...

How do I fix this wavy side..

I bent some Cherry sides and got some waviness in the lower bout.. Any way to fix this? Happened both sides but only on the lower bout.

I am thinking of trying to flatten it with a flat iron using a round pipe to support the inside of the side.

Re: Opinions wanted on use of this Sitka top...

Thanks for the replies. I wont stress over the wide grain.

I wouldn't normally buy an expensive guitar with bear claw but being able to build my own for fun lets me experiment so when i found this top for reasonable money, I jumped on it.

Opinions wanted on use of this Sitka top...

I purchase a bear claw Sitka Spruce top from eBay and when it arrived, I was a little disapointed because the growth lines are spread wide apart. From my understanding, the tighter the grain the better so I am a bit concerned if this is good enough top. It has a good ring when I tap on it but mostly...

Re: Hello from Canada

The neck was certainly a challenge. The one shown is the second one as the first had a visiual flaw which I did not like. I used a Martin neck as a model and made a few profile templates from it to use a guide. I had to buy a few wrasp as this was my first time carving anything. Took it slow and I a...
