Re: Importing Wood
Where do you source your timbers from Rocket? if you don't mind me asking. I am pretty keen to build my own Archtop at some point next year...but as i have very little experience will probably end up doing a lot of practice wood bending. Stew Mac look like they have some interesting wood. but no dou...

Re: electrics
I don't know how much you know about the whole soldering/ wiring of the pots but this may be helpful: Remember to solder the ground wire to either the top of one of the pots (using a piece of 120-180 grit sandpaper to score a small portion of the top of the pot so that the solder has something to st...

Cheers Nicko, that certainly makes a challenging task a tiny little bit less difficult.

Re: Can you put Nitro over Danish Oil or Oil based mediums?
yeah it's a beautiful piece of red gum and that is why i would like to accentuate the natural colours in the wood rather than make it potentially cheap or plastic-esque.

Re: Bending Irons
Great idea Lillian i guess i could always just add a small piece of metal to put over the soldering iron in order to make sure the whole width of the timber can be bent at once. Unless i can find a fairly long industrial soldering iron. hmmmm

The Guy uses a barbeque ignition prong and basically takes it all apart and uses it to heat the metal pipe.

Bending Irons
Has anyone made their own improvised bending iron or wood steamer? I'd prefer to not buy one and am in need of a clever shortcut.

Do you know a good brand of those dyes Jim or where to get them in Australia/Vic? I know the woodworking forum's sponsor is U Beaut but when i called them they said they were not specialty dies but food dies although a few people had got some for guitars.

Re: Can you put Nitro over Danish Oil or Oil based mediums?
What would be a fairly easy way of doing a sunburst finish without the aid of a spray gun or Nitrocellulose then? Something that would have a similar and sturdy finish. Something say more durable than oil that would not require re-coats after setup and strings are on... It is for a piece of Redgum/ ...

Can you put Nitro over Danish Oil or Oil based mediums?
Hey guys, sorry to hear about the hacking. I'll chuck up a how-to in a few weeks to share my somewhat 'novice' process with the forum... Does anyone know if it is a horribly bad idea to put a Nitrocellulose finish atop a Danish oil? Or is it usually just safest to use a Nitrocellulose... Someone in ...

Calling People with Guitar Finishing Experience
Very Vague Question, but hopefully it will start an interesting discussion. What type/ brand of nitrocellulose finishes have you had most success with with Electric Guitars. I'm looking to get a high gloss finish on some wood which has a pronounced fiddle back pattern (Red Gum) (pictured below). I p...

Titebond or Epoxy or Resin
Hey guys, I'm currently trying to glue two pieces of red Alder together to make a guitar body. Any ideas what glue would hold a butt join for the longest period possible. I'm guessing that the density of the glue will slightly effect the sound/ resonance of the guitar (but not as much as it is elect...
