Re: Fretmaster

I love your rig Pete. I'm thinking I might knock up something similar. One change that I am currently thinking through is to somehow set it up with the blade overhead instead of underneath. The main advantage of this approach would be the ability to slot pre-radiused boards. The high quality blade w...

Re: Bench padding?

mail-1.jpeg Take 2. Thanks heaps for the tute Kim. Pic 1 is a shot of my shed ceiling. A tin shed can be a noisy place once you get a router or table saw fired up. This stuff helps a heap to deaden the sound. Also helps to insulate as well when I need to get my little heater going in winter. Pic 2 ...

Re: Bench padding?

Sorry for the late reply Kim, busy times. Like many of the solutions mentioned above, my sound proofing foam was scrounged, one of the advantages of being in the building game. You would be surprised at what gets thrown out. In fact Ive lined my whole shed ceiling shed ceiling with this stuff. I hav...

Re: Bench padding?

Hi guys, thought I'd add my 2 cents.
My padding of choice is a piece of sound proofing foam. These have a series of reasonably high pyramid shaped peaks which means that any debris that may end up on the mat will fall safely away to the valleys reducing the risk of scratches.

Re: Time to buy my first router - Any tips

My advise would be to stick to a router brand and model that is likely to be around for a long time to come. The reason I say this is that I have spent countless hours setting up jigs to perform various precision tasks. Most of them are specific to a particular router. If one of my routers packed it...

There aren't too many things more beautiful in this world than a well executed archtop. A true art form. I must get around to building one of these one day and hang it on a wall. Love your work.

Hi people. I'm fairly new to the forum and still playing catch up on some archive posts. Found this one and thought I would post my version of the waist press "screw" on my bender. Re: Best way to radius the fingerboard?

Thanks for the comments Tim. You are spot on with your suggestion of the movable pivots. My original sketches that I prepared had multiple pivot points with a slot system in the end of the box. I never followed through with this as I decided that I only ever use 1 radius (16") and took the short cut...

Re: Best way to radius the fingerboard?

I came up with a slightly different take on the router sled. photoez.jpg The upright piece of ply that you can see in the middle of the box is the same length as the radius and is hinged at the bottom. A fingerboard blank is stuck on with double sided tape. The turn screw system is from a cheapy vis...

I agree with Kim and have been using the Wagner plane and a home made thickness sander. My first guitar however was all done with a hand plane which, despite being quite time consuming, was a worthwhile exersize.

So what do you WANT to build? How does it sound? So figure out how to do it... This is very good advise. As a carpenter I'm always being asked for advise from people who want to do their own projects around the house (pergolas, decks, extensions etc.) Often design concepts are compromised jumbles o...

After the glue is dry I cut the bent laminate into strips Matthew, I was wondering how you go about cutting the laminate into strips after it is bent.
