did something different

Seems for what ever reason we do thing the way we do them more from habit. I changed my kerfed lining glue in technique on the last few guitars and it worked so well I want to share . I no longer apply the glue to the kerfing , I put the glue on the side of the guitar and then set in the linings. I ...

You can't get better info that when taking a class from a good teacher. In the long run it will save you a lot of money . You can learn a lot from others taking the class . Share your mistakes as well as successes. Sometimes learning what not to do is more important that learning what to do.

Re: Fret wire suppliers

I am a dealer for Jescar and if you guys want to do a group by I would love to help out. Buying by the lb is cheaper than per strip. They also have a number of available tangs. I can ship to one person and you can divide it up. This is the same wire CF Martin uses and there are a number of tang thin...

Re: Binding cutter moved

OK now you have a design enhancement opportunity. What I did to hide one of these , was A take the trim router and used it for target practice and got a good one. In your case I don't know what you had. I used a Harbor Freight ( cheap chinese junk) I now use the ridgid line. B recut to the depth of ...

Re: Is this destined to fail?

this is going to be tough, the expansion rate , the weight. You would be better off to veneer this. As the top and back contract and expand you will see your sides fail. Hate to be the bearer of bad news. The top and back will expand across the grain, in typical guitars the grain on the sides is opp...

Re: Richlite fretboards

Found they work pretty well. I never had one split. I find they are a lot better than the mycarta that was used. I have seen people tell me they hate richlite and love the ebony that is on the new guitar they bought and it was in fact richlite.

voltage converters 240/120

what do you people use to convert 240 to 120 Vac? Is there something available locally? I supply many jigs to your country and would like to know if you have something that can save shipping cost and have good reliability
thanks

Re: Wood drying ovens

For a small unit you can make what gunsmiths use here in the states. Old chest freezers work well as they seal tight , are insulated and you can control the inside environment. You need to control air flow , RH and temp. They use dessicant beads. ( Salt will also work ) a small fan and a light bulb....

Re: Wood drying ovens

Drying wood takes time. I can tell you from running a wood kiln it takes about 30 days to run a cycle. The first part to drying is not to do it too fast , you can cause a lot of cracking and warping. Some kilns use a steam process to get the wood wet , then slowing remove the water. The kilns we use...

Re: Coloured Purflering and Binding

actually from a protection stand point plastic is more protective but wood does give options that are not available . Also wood will tend to have more open gaps that need to be addressed. You can use a dye and make your own. You should be able to find dyes over there. easy process.

sanders can be very helpful on figured woods. Also they are hard to beat for thicknessing accuracy.
