Re: been awhile

What's my philosophy? Like most of my projects, I take a typical design and tweak it to what I think would make it better (of course, this is a matter of personal preference, and highly subjective to each guitar I build). For example - the telecaster build breaks down like this: -Typical Telecaster ...

been awhile

Hey all,

Been awhile since I was here, I do on occasion check out the forum to see what everyone's up to. In the meantime haven't stopped building - all my gear and build pics are over at http://www.facebook.com/jguitars. Check it out some time!

Cheers,
Jeremy

Re: obfuscated 335 site and the firebird x

Hi Nick - I've been digging around following up info about the guitar pack that the estate of Jimi Hendrix was releasing with Gibson - sure enough, there was a press release from the estate about it here: http://www.musicradar.com/guitarist/janie-hendrix-talks-about-the-new-jimi-hendrix-signature-el...

obfuscated 335 site and the firebird x

I'm having some fun (difficulties) with the neck relief (sorted out now, stupid noob mistake) of my 335 build, and of course I jump straight onto the 'net to source images and whatnot for reference. I found this little jem - dedicated to Gibson's es-335 and more, a comprehensive blog site - Charlie ...

wayne henderson - luthier

there's no search feature in the forum, so I am not sure if you guys have talked about this guy before. he's an acoustic builder, very well known in the states - check out this vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZSb5_5eX3k , stepping through his process and workshop, really interesting stuff. There...

Re: random finds

ahh ok.. so.. i won't post torrents again in my random linkery. I will warn everyone though, against downloading a torrent client, like for example, bittorrent http://www.bittorrent.com/. Oh, and I am definitely against all and sundry searching for 'guitar' or 'guitar making' or 'build guitar' or 'l...

Re: Beginner/Bunnings woods

since i'm making solid bodies, i'll be honest and say i've yet to really explore the surrounds in regards to wood resources and other luthiers - Nic down at Ashwood Timbers (Kayleigh Drive in Maroochydore) is the man though - he knows a bunch of guys around who often hit him up for woods, and is nic...

Re: Look at these Yobs

I think these guys are from Otyg - a swedish 'folk' metal band (they used to play a lot of folk music before getting heavier, and the styles intertwined - they were known for using a multitude of lutes and other medieval instruments in thier music - which I guess, in a way, raised awareness to their...

Whenever i'm plugged into the 'net, I'm usually always skirting the edges looking for something new and interesting, more times than usual it is guitar related. I'd like to start sharing some links, and I am also open to requests if it is something specific you're looking for that you have had diffi...

Re: My first build

That's cool, thanks for sharing that link - I am sure my explorer would be massively worse off because of the way I constructed it (the wood is not one piece - more like a jigsaw of pieces to get the shape). Makes me wonder how introducing some design changes (one piece body/neck as opposed to bolt-...

Re: new(ish) here - introduction

Thanks Tod! Opinions are always welcome - i think maybe some of the stuff i am attempting and my approach might not resonate well with some of the traditionalists, maybe thats why I don't many comments on my project ideas? :D Will be cool to pick your brain about wiring - i'll put some stuff up abou...

Re: Project #2 - es-335 with some twists

I've been mistakenly referencing the fingerboard material I have as massanuba, when I mean to be saying "Massaranduba" (pfft, waaay off) or "Manilkara bidentata" or "Balata". From the tree, it is a hardwood (it is almost the same density as ebony), with a red heart, which is mostly used for furnitur...

project #3 - double doom

This one started out as an experiment in using aluminium diamond plate as a pickguard, and making a telecaster (metalcaster, as I called it), I got started on that and kind of just put it aside to start the 335 build (project #2). It just lacked something. A friend of mine bought over his bass for r...

Project #2 - es-335 with some twists

One of the guitars i've always admired the aethetics of is gibson's semi-hollow es-335, in its vintage cherry niceness, but OMG I cannot afford one - for something remotely awesome, you're looking in the realms of 2-3g, vintage is in the realms of 4g+. Even cheap current knocks offs, often poorly co...

Re: Beginner/Bunnings woods

Personally I'm a big fan of Bunnings tassie oak, but I make solid body electrics as opposed to Peter's beautiful acoustics made from the same material. The wood seems pretty durable and can be applied to pretty much anything. Take a look here for some details of the wood http://www.anzlf.com/viewtop...

Thanks for the continued warm welcomes everyone. Re: My first build

i think i overstated working with the circuit board as pick guard idea - puffy, definately got that it didn't need to be recessed (after the fact though, too late after i'd routed the recess), and I also didn't get assembling the wiring away form the guitar (though it is completely obvious), so spot...

My first build

For those who haven't skipped over to my site to see this, i thought i'd post my first 'abomination' here for all to harsh critique - the 'calm like a bomb' seven string explorer. this is the initial concept design - like everything i do, i take into photoshop first and play with the design: http://...
