Re: #1 Oh what a feeling!
Nice work, mate. Worth the wiat. Lotsa fun to get those first notes out of them isn't it? I don't mind admitting that it actually brought a tear to my eye. Really inspires you to keep building, I can only imagine what it would be like to build one for someone and see the look on their face the firs...

Re: Workshop tour - lets see yours!
At least the Snortin' Norton has it's own room. :cl In the late 60's I used to hire, for a carton of cigs, my newlywed mates 750 commando. I'd ride south to San Diego or north to Santa Barbara. 4 hours return either way. Coast highway, fantastic. Did 90 mph once and got worried about hanging on. Th...

Re: #1 Oh what a feeling!
I though so too but the pics on the stewmac site show them on top. Looking at the pics in the reviews section though and it looks like most people have mounted them worm gear up. Anyhow they seem to work fine and don't fit the other way round so I am stuck with them like that! http://www.stewmac.com...

I was in the Brisbane store last weekend and it was a Jet feast. They had their machinery floor split in half with Jet on one side and CT on the other. I have the same band saw as the guy on the cover of the catalog. I can't imagine pushing a log like that through it :). Funny thing is I don't think...

Re: Pure Acoustic Stompbox
Hi Trevor,
I have a friend who has a single pedal one of these. It is quite loud un-amplified and has a good base drum like sound. I tried it sitting on it playing guitar and it was a load of fun.

Yea, lucky bugger. I am still waiting for my CNC to arrive and am beginning to wonder if it will ever arrive. Is looking like a big mistake. Peter Have you purchased a machine? I am very intrigued by this, they seem to be getting very cheap but it seems like it would be a minefield working out whic...

CNC Fairies
Just had a visit from the CNC fairies. http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k366/bambam99_photo/20120919_165926_zps5a2c46aa.jpg I work as a programmer and I have built some software for a large CNC factory. They were nice enough to put a job through for me today. It was on packing sheets too so it cos...

Re: Top finishing question
Man I wish this thread had of been about a week earlier. I have a similar effect on mine. I sprayed the first coats on the weekend. Its not so bad though. The worst part is i put a sponge in the sound hole to protect the inside and it must have been dirty. There are red dust marks on the top under t...

Re: Herringbone Purfling how deep?
I did mine similar to Nick and Allen. It has a fairly tight waist radius. The way I did mine was to soak the purf in a hot bath for about 5 mins. Then I bent it around a 5 mm ply wood template. I used plastic thumb tacks to hold it in place around the template and let it dry. It actually worked real...

Re: Local builder/video slideshow acoustic lap steel
That's cool 8) I managed to catch Jeff Lang at the broadbeach blues festival a few months ago and he is phenomenal on those things. I personally haven't had the chance to play one but it has always been at the back of my mind to get (or build) one some day. I love the stuff that Jack Rose does on an...

Looks awesome Nick, Love the woods and that top is amazing. I have one of these from stewmac and it seemed to work very well http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tools/Tools_for_Binding/TrueChannel_Binding_Routing_Jig.html . It will be ages until I am at the point of using it again (I am very slow). If you d...

An interesting read
HI Guys, I just finished reading Clapton's Guitar by Allen St John. I know it has been discussed here before so I won't go into it. I just wanted to offer it up to anyone that felt they wanted to give it a read. So if your a long standing contributing member of this forum and want to read this book ...

Re: Pore filling
OK I think I am now going to go a different way. A hobby store down the road stocks z-poxy finishing resin. Seems like it would be a lot easier to use this as it is clear and I can fill the bindings, neck etc without having to worry as much about staining the lighter coloured wood. This should be OK...
