Re: Pore filling

Thanks Martin, Just checked out their site but doesn't seem to be a retailer close to the gold coast. I have some bullzeye shellac that I use for sealing jigs etc. I have read extensive discussions on this very forum about not using it under finish because it contains wax. Maybe I will just wait unt...

Pore filling

Quick question for you guys, I am preparing my first guitar for finish. It is EIR and I picked up some ebony Timbermate from the masters store down the road. I don't have any shellac (I do have some on order by it is a while away). If I was to do this, what is the best way to keep it off the maple b...

Re: New Masters store

Rob, I am not familiar with Masters Stores but a quick search reveals that they seem to be the Victorian equivalent of Bunnings? Is that correct? John Hi John, I think Masters opened to compete with Bunnings. Up here in QLD they seem to open up next door to bunnings. I have 3 Bunnings within 10 KM'...

I was happy to see this also. It is fresh too, hopefully they sell enough to keep the stuff on the shelves fresh.

I also noticed they sell timbermate grain filler :D .

Re: Spraying conditions?

Hi Nick,

What gun are you spraying with? I am almost ready to start the finish on my first build. I was looking at maybe one of these http://tradetools.com/products/S106-171G but maybe the needle diameter is too think? I have a decent compressor and water trap already.

Hi tech fret installation.

Today I fretted my first instrument, very happy with myself 8) . This morning when I was preparing I thought I would browse youtube and get a few different perspectives on it. Re: Alaska Specialty Woods

I organised a group buy of bear claw tops from Brent, and they got to Brunswick Heads in about 8 days. I've waited longer for a post card from melbourne. I believe that Brent must be a majority shareholder in both USPS and AusPost, because it's like bloody magic! If you're south of Bundy and ever e...

More so than engelmann? My first build is engelmann. It's funny I wouldn't pick that from just handling the rough sawn plates. It smells really nice too :gui

Alaska Specialty Woods

Ordered some wood from Brent last week and would you belive it turned up today. Thats some great service. I got some sitka and some WRC. I am hoping to make my second build out of WRC with blackwood back and sides. Has anybody built with this combo before? I am aiming for a nice finger-style guitar,...

I would be interested to know how much bandwidth this place uses. We have a full rack in pipe networks in Brisbane with unlimited data. If you ever wanted to get it out from under your desk and into an enterprise environment I might be able to help out.

Heads up on laminate trimmer

Hi Guys, Not sure if this is of interest to anybody. I was looking for a reasonably priced laminate trimmer to use for my first build. I was looking at the Maktec's that you guys have mentioned on here before but the local supplier was out of stock. I found this one at trade tools http://tradetools....

Re: Norton Water Stones

Hi Mark, Thanks for the reply and info. I got the dial gauge from my father courtesy of his work :). There are plenty on ebay though. The plan was from the Gore/Gilet build book. All kinds of great jigs and insights. For my build I have all the components in a spare room that has a de-humidifier in ...

Hi Guys, I haven't posted for a while, took the summer off from working on my first build (Gold Coast, no air con in the shed). Just started doing some work today and getting close to closing the box which is exciting. The reason for my post is I am thinking about getting rid of my near new Norton s...

Re: Opinion on saw

Hi Jeremy , I agree with martin , If I could only have 3 power tools for Guitar making it would be my 14 " bandsaw, my jet Drum sander and my oscilating spindal sander. I have a few others but those three are the most used , I cut my fret slots with a Stewmac fret slotting jig , takes 5 minutes , I...

Re: Opinion on saw

Thanks a lot Martin. After reading back my post that does make sense. With a good band saw, set up right, can you cut accurately enough to do a mortice and tenon neck joint, scarf joint and other critical cuts?
