EARTH WEEK and NEW ASW Grand Opening

I wanted to share this with everyone here since we launched this special earlier in the week. But being way off the grid enjoyed by our neighbors in the lower 48 states technology in and out of Alaska, at least for us, seems to give us as much problem as shipping costs. Folks on our current opt-in m...

Re: Serious Problem for ASW

We are fixed after a long day. I guess a hacking robot, or multiple, had uploaded and downloaded 84 gigs of data and deposited corupted files in the back end of the blog. Dick spent 3 hours restoring and getting us back. I have work to do also. I didn't know how long it was going to take to get back...

Serious Problem for ASW

I just learned AlaskaWoods.com is not accessible as of this morning 6/12/2017 70% of our sales are through AlaskaWoods.com, so this is a serious situation. Trying to reach the Domain Host, a company in UK that is also the owner of our online store software. Anyway, when going to alaskawoods.com, you...

help contacting a luthier in NSW

Does anyone know Ian Bartholomew in Bega, NSW? Ian placed a nice order with us via the online store. We have tried emailing several times and calling the phone number listed, but no answer by phone or voicemail, nothing and no reply by email. Alternately Martin found Ians Facebook profile. But it's ...

Trying to reach Dan Gould

Is Dan Gould in this forum? Dan emailed me yesterday with inquiry for a custom size soundboard and my reply to his email is not deliverable. I bet he doesn't even know his email client isn't setup correctly. If anyone Knows Dan, have him call me or email his phone to me. I don't even know what count...

The AU$ +

I am so happy to see the AU $ gaining purchasing power... After months of decline and a low of $1.39 AU/$1 US, the currency has gained about 4.5% to $1.33/ $1US. And on another note. We'll be at NAMM show if anyone would like to connect... Do email me.

Re: Brent Cole - Alaska Specialty Woods house fire

With tears of humble gratitude, all I can say is Thank you so much! So many of you, my friends from down under, have contributed to the fund-me page started by my daughter while I was still unconscious and several have helped with orders for product. We really appreciate you all.

Re: Do your instruments have stories too?

I had thought after posting, was looking for a way to edit my last post. I am sure criteria can be met or exceeded. The light weight you are looking for,m the stiffnesss oof a GREAT soundboard, by both the cut and the material, but add in the toughness hardness of Sitka fiber, that adds to it's dura...

Re: Do your instruments have stories too?

Martin, I don't recognize your name as me we have sent any of our Fabulous Sitka. Maybe you will want to give us a try and specify some criteria for tonal properties. I'll bet we meet or exceed them. And from timber source that has been ages in the round for decades.

Re: the 3000 yr old ancient sitka

Spoke to Rueban yesterday. He met with Slash Monday to discuss another project he and I have underway. Anyway, Slash loves the guitar. Writes songs with it, and plans to record an acoustic song with it, in the next album.. Make a customer who has $25,000 to spend on a guitar Happy, and earn a few ex...

Do your instruments have stories too?

You folks that build instruments are artists, not just instrument builders factory workers. Your product is more, though you are probably competing to sell your product with cheap chineese factory music boxes. What about adding a story, andf addingt soul to your work of art. It doesn't need to be fa...

Re: sinker tonewood

I can speak to this from a soundboard producers perspective. We live on an island surrounded by salt water, in the middle of a temperate rain-forest. Wood will eventually sink in freshwater, but not in saltwater, unless so much mass has been removed by teredo[a mollusk, a clam without a home on it's...

Re: the 3000 yr old ancient sitka

I cannot address it's benefit by tone. I don't know. It is true that mineralization of iron and other has permeated the wood for 3 millennium. And it may be the rarest pc of sitka ever shown to the world and ever will. When "the tree" mahogany first hit the market, it was sold at about $20/bdft and ...
