Re: What is "Hand Made"

for me hand made or crafted nowadays is more of a sales term than anything quality related a cnc is just a tool, but its about how one uses it if youd shape braces to a certain height because its in the plan like that you dont vary for different stiffness of the wood brace to brace but then you can ...

Re: Ervin Smoygi Books

it depends on how you build

erwin's more "romanitc" vs the more "scientific" approach of G+G

he builds using his ears rather than microphones+computers+whatnot
so one could say a bit abstract
I personally build his way

Re: Fretted to Fretless Conversion

hy, binding or standard veneer should be at around .5 or .6mm, so perfect fit for most fretslots one mayor thing to keep in mind when doing this is that the intonation distance changes, and you might run into trouble with your bridge... you dont need the fretmarkers on a fretless but there's nothing...

Re: Torrefaction experiment

please be very careful! the flash ignition point of spruce is at 350 - 360 degrees Celsius and the Point for spontaneous ignition is at 390 - 400 degrees celsius (that's as far as I know) that might change without oxygene, but no oxygene doesn't mean an oven with the wood wrapped in Aluminiumfoil no...

Re: repairing an old Gibson J50 -1968

well, 68 ain't really vintage nor a real good year (which must not mean anything) so retopping is not out of the question but what does the rest of it look like? most Gibsons of that age (and earlier) are beaters, so putting on a new top might look completely wrong... you can always send this one th...

Re: Cutting CF Truss Rod

doesn't it eat through blades? I use a metalbladed handsaw, and the blade doesnt last too long, whereas cutting stainless steel seemingly doesnt bother the blade at all... I use very high density rods from a cf product supplier and not any of the luthier supply stuff though, if that matters... might...

Re: Pickup for Acoustic Bass Guitar

quiet frankly I just know the k&k, for standard systems, which is pretty decent in sound imho but at least worth a thought is this one or something comparable http://www.lacemusic.com/USAB.php can be installed like a archtop pickup, with a bit of work too, lets call that floating for now and then yo...
