Hi Sebastiaan, Indeed that's a fine instrument! I would say at a guess that the strings have looped ends and the bridge setup would be similar to what many mandolin use! I'm no expert so someone else on the forum may have more experience with these instruments and be able to advise better. Cheers Alan

Yep, I was so impressed with the tone of Allen's Australian Cedar topped guitars I seeked out a few top sets to build with myself one day in the future. I am very interested in using alternate woods to build with.

G'day Bob, Thats one innovative looking guitar. I love the sassafrass. I have just finished building a weissenborn copy using Golden Sassafrass. The tone is big and very warm. I have a set of Blackheart Sassafrass to suilt an OM sized guitar in my wood stash. The wood is easy to bend and work with a...

Yep ,the Gilet hide glue certainly went off quicker! It stinks too! I much prefer to use the high clarity hide glue and its smell is acceptable to work with in enclosed spaces.

Interesting discussions going on here alright! This aspect of guitar building is so intriuging. The John Mayes Advanced Voicing DVD touches on this subject but it is limited. I have no experience with tap tone but with my last two builds I have tapped the tops consistantly on both guitars during the...

I have been building two weissenborn style lap slide guitars at the same time since October last year. The Sassafrass/Myrtle guitar has been documented on another post here but this one, an all Blackwood from Mr Spittle has been developing nicely. This guitar is 10mm thicker that the other and it ha...

Cheers Allen, Bob and Kim. The guitar has come up real good! Bob the sassafrass sounds big, warm and nicely balanced. It's tone is close to the lap guitar I already have which has a cedar top. I used some light gauge string on her and she is very responsive. I'm planing two 000s using the stew mac p...

Further progress the past few weeks. The bridge was glued on, nut fitted and she has had three wash coats of hard shellac. After some test runs with the shellac on some scrap pieces I new Sassie was going to be a honey blonde. Well, as they say, blondes have more fun. http://i146.photobucket.com/alb...
