Re: Just closed falcate classical - with tap spectrum

That finish looks quite nice - Would love to see some macro shots!
I've been told the CF bridge laminate can get furry when shaping, did you find that happening at all?

Re: In the interest of disclosure ...

Sorry to hear about your trouble Pete, especially with a bublet around. Wholesaling sounds like a great idea, but keep in mind the individual buyer shows a far greater profit margin - especially for the more exotic stuff you've got, (like that gorgeous leopardwood I got from you!) if you can manage ...

Re: Just closed falcate classical - almost finished.

I have to say the bolt on bolt off neck for the classical was the hardest thing I have ever done. I am not that good following instructions, but I went back and re read the section over and over again to avoid making mistakes. How did you go with the tapered neck wedge? That's the only bit that fri...

Re: Joiner setup help??

This one's going back a long way... but is that manual still floating around the web?
I've got myself an old junior jointer and it might come in handy for the refurb.

I agree on the lovely whooshing sound matthew :D

Re: neck blank question

Thanks guys,

So 610 + 240 + kerfs and f*ckups should get me 2 necks out of the 2m length.
I'm intending it for a classical neck, or a gut-strung parlour. Hopefully the pious farts will have transubstantiated by now Pete :D

For reinforcing, is the jury still out on carbon fibre rods?

Cheers,
Rob

neck blank question

Hello luthiers, My father in law has offered me a bit of his timber stash: a 2m long piece of 150-year-old red cedar from an old church that was torn down in Box Hill, Vic, in the 70s. It's beautiful - perfectly quartered and a rich red chocolatey colour. Light as anything but very strong, carves an...

New Year introductions

Hello everyone, I though the new year might be a good opportunity for new members like myself who haven't done so (like myself) to introduce themselves! Good opportunity for lurkers to come out of the woodwork and say hello too! So me first: I'm Rob, from Sydney. I work with orchestras for a profess...

Incidentally, does anyone get a touch of trypophobia from silky oak? (Warning= a google search for trypophobia is an excellent and very quick test of whther you have it!)

a stickering question..

Hi everyone, I'm hoping to pick your brains about storing wood. I've been building up a modest collection of timber while completing my first build, and want to make sure it's nice and flat and dry for the next 2 or 20.. Here's the arrangement I've got so far: http://i.imgur.com/syN2IbG.jpg?1 My que...

It was certainly an enlightening course. I had a fantastic time and met a great bunch of makers! Now my family and friends get to hear about monopole mobility and impedance mismatching for the next few weeks. Blank stares all around, thanks Trevor! PS that instrument in the picture is hands down the...

Hi Kim,

Paul Sellers has a good video on this here.
I used his instructions and it work a treat for a 15tpi saw I restored, worked a treat.
