Re: Marios wood
Wayne, if the photos you have seen when you purchased the set were indeed those of the set you got, packaging must have been quite poor and the responsible one is on the list of those who make me suffer... The packaging would have been perfect.......for a 4 month fungus festival. Maybe it was lucky...

Re: Marios wood
Glad to see you weren't stung too badly Wayne and you are satisfied with the purchase (after all, it's only you it has to please :D ). What grading did Mario give these or do they just get less exuberant names as the grade decreases? It was so long ago now Nick i can't remember what grade it was ( ...

Re: Marios wood
it'll be out of the template area. Good for you. It would be interesting though to know if the advertised dimensions included the golden pink curly sealing stains or not. The stains are inside the advertised dimensions Markus, i think they must have been picked up in transit somehow, because they w...

Marios wood
After nearly 4 months the Lutz i ordered off Mario finally arrived. It looks to be ok for the most part, there is a black stain of some sort on the archtop set i don't think it's mould and it'll be out of the template area. The acoustic set had a couple of hairline splits which i've stabilized with C...

Re: Brazilian Rosewood
And here's me with a massive Campaign chest that stands 5 feet tall made from solid BRW. I guess it's safe in it's current spot holding the table cloths and napkins and god knows what else the better half has stored away in there. I had half a mind of sawing it up one day. Watch out woodrat ...

What about a decorative inlay just over the split? A tree branch or something ala Jeff Jong. Wayne

Re: Implications of socketing braces
If it was only the humidity-loss related shrinking, this would occur much earlier. I have never seen braces pop through the sides of a relatively new guitar (50 years or less). Also, these popped-through braces are pretty much locked in their position, they do not retreat with higher RH. Thus, it m...

AFT closing
I know there's a few forum members that get timber from Aust. Furniture Timber in Port Melb. I've just been there to get some Padauk and they've told me they're closing for good on 30/6/14. There will be no more sales after the 2nd. week in May and they'll be closed Easter week, so if anyone needs a...

Re: Back bracing
Probably be more of an appearance thing Pat, you're going to be able to see them pretty clearly through the sound hole. I shape some of my braces by getting a block of wood drilling a hole the same size as the brace then cut it in half and use it as a sanding block to radius the top of the brace, mi...

Live and learn as they say. I did try Shane for an archtop set a couple of months before he said he was getting out, but he never had any at the time. Wayne

Re: Australia misses out on Mario's wood
I bought an archtop set and acoustic set off him this week. When i checked his website i looked at his dropdown box and Australia was there so i just ordered what i wanted no problems. He must have changed his opinion of Aust. or something because i've tried before with no luck. Wayne

Re: 2 questions
Thanks again John and Jeff, i did as advised and thinned the side to 1.5mm from near the waist, i soaked the side in hot water with some fabric softener in it. I decided to do it on a form with the blanket instead of the pipe, everything went smoothly and i didn't hear any cracking, so it's all good...
