He hasn't been on the forum for yonks!
Does anyone know if he's OK or just got the shits with us?
I've had a PM to him sitting in my Outbaox since September.

Re: Looks like a guitar
I recently had a rather enjoyable half hour playing this fine instrument in the hallowed halls of Parliament House. While noodling away on a bit of The Oils 'No Reaction', I started to wonder if Pete would poke his dome in through the doorway & give us a dance. You've done well with this one B...

Re: Fret Board Taper Jig - Table Saw Method.
Had a few fingerboards to cut today so I decided to give this little jig a try-out on my 'well behaved' bandsaw. I had to do a bit of setup first. The fence needed to be extended out front & back as did the table surface. So I added on a straight piece of Tassie Oak & some mdf scrap and all was read...

Re: Not just Desert Ukes
Yeah Nick, I had to get clarifaction on that as well.
My initial design had a pair of "bush coconuts" (from the bloodwood tree) supported in a flimsy sling of macramed spinifex grass.
Apparantly I had the wrong idea......

Not just Desert Ukes
It wasn't just the odd uke that I was called on to create during my stay in Alice Springs. Just another way I've enjoyed making my little mark in this world. I used central australian timbers mostly (gidgee, mulga & desert oak) with a pillar of ebony inlaid with figured mulga. The top of the pillars...

Re: How to build a humidity room
Ive been searching and found some electronic devices that monitor temp and humidity, they then via alarms switch independant devices on and off to maintain. This is what I do for a living. Re: I just love tool makers
My brother-in-law has spent his life forging & casting for a living. His hobby used to be making anvils. For reasons that will sound familiar, he gave it away. Seems people weren't prepared to pay the cost of a high quality, personally built, item when they could buy a cheap overseas made one. I jus...

Re: Top finishing question
get a small party balloon and inflate it in there That's what I do whenever I spray a finish - even works for 'f' holes. Incidently, I 'discovered' the washboard effect when I first stared using shellac. I thought I had a problem, turns out I didn't. Done 12 instruments this way now. http://www.anz...

Re: Acoustic bass specs
Another approach I saw was to extend the upper bout further up the bass side of the fretboard.
this looked a little odd, but not too bad & added some volume to the body without increasing the lower bout dimensions.

Re: Acoustic bass specs
Thanks Bob, the wedge has certainly been in my thoughts. Could any of you bass players here consider how your wrist position would be with an angled top & let me know what you think. Would it make a difference? good/bad? I've also been thinking along the lines of an archtop, where around 5" can be a...

He's a true bassman, being just as accomplished on the Doubble Bass as on a Fend...

Re: Introductions - a polite request
Hi, my name is Craig, and I'm a luthier-holic. I started out as just a recreational abuser in 2005, spending the odd weekend doodling with tools I didn't really understand & timber I understood even less. Quicker than I thought it became addictive. I started thinking about it at work, spending my ti...
