Re: Build thread - Blackwood & Bunya Dreadnought

A wash with oxalic acid will often get rid of the worst of the staining. I missed this post until now Where abouts do you buy the oxalic acid? I've never heard of it. http://www.bunnings.com.au/cleaner-brick-2kg-rust-stain-cleaner_p0960276 If you have a Masters, they sell it too, in a smaller size....

Re: Build thread - Blackwood & Bunya Dreadnought

All the instructions I've read and videos have said 320F and bake at 260f !!! Are we using the same bender & controller? I am using an LMI blanket and the same controller as you. I just bent some uke sides at around 80 thou thick, with a tighter radius then you, and started winding down the waste a...

Re: Build thread - Blackwood & Bunya Dreadnought

I had the same problem with burning the first time I used the blanket too. I wound the temp right down and found that mine easily bent at 200F, I know the recommendations on here are 280F but it started smoking at that temperature for me.

The rosette actually looks pretty good, I normally don't like the look of segmented rosettes, but it works. I like that little saw you have, I'll have to get one of those too.

Have a look at Allens website and you will get a good idea of what they cost. I would buy one if I had any sort of musical ability. I love Allens work, It is the pinnacle for me.

Re: Rimu, Flamed Maple, Ziricote, Tiger Myrtle and Mahogany

Keep 'em coming Col That I will! My builds have suffered of late as I've been flat out with a non guitar job I've been swamped with over the last six weeks, doing a shopfit. Basically the job is an internal demolition of a retail store that's a bit over 300 sq m, then the fit out which I calculated...

Re: OM Guitar #8

Looks great Pete & that varnish finish looks the goods. Yes the varnish came out nicely, and it ages nicely. This time I used West Systems to pore fill, then shellac and then the varnish. No French polish over the varnish. With time it will turn a light amber colour which gives the instrument a nic...

Re: Build thread for first Gore SS from the plans in the boo

Thanks for documenting this, it really is a lot of work to build and take decent photos. I've had the books for 12 months now and I am just waiting for winter to arrive and the humidity to decrease before I start on my next build, so I find it interesting to watch your build, even though the books d...

Chuckie

I could only dream of making an instrument that nice, it looks awesome. That bridge design is really clever, I remember it from your Albizia guitar, which is one of my favourite guitars ever posted on the forum.

Re: Wipe-on finish for acoustic guitar

I would go the tru-oil route, it is easy to apply and dries fast too. I recently completed a big wooden trophy plaque for a Hockey Club in Qld Maple. It had 5 coats of tru-oil sanded in between coats and it came out unbelievable, really high gloss.
