Good point Hesh!

It will be very interesting to see how the Native Olive behaves as you build it and how it sounds as a completed instrument.

Hi Allen,

I was a bit cautious and was able to get three sets. Four sets might have been possible but I was uncertain how the saw was going to go. There is material left over for bridges, fretboards and possibly some bindings although length will be an issue.

Cooktown Ironwood Erythrophleum chlorostachys

Allen was kind enough to send me part of a barbecue bench that he stumbled across in Cairns. Whilst this tonewood is not in the high "eye candy" x factor it is probably worth getting some sooner or later. Mr Bootle (Wood in Australia) has lots of nice things to say about Cooktown Ironwood. The side ...

Whoops! I clicked the wrong button and did the PM thing. ......anyway. I sourced my blanket from LMII that was 220-240 volt. I am sure that there are other suppliers. it is probably more a case of them having a myopic view: all things are 110V! I have a luthier friend over here who is trying to put ...

The Australian Guitar set/kits

I noticed Hesh's suggestion and would be happy to offer several set/kit types that encompass the current range of Australian tonewoods I have or can get.

Stay tuned!

Fret slotting with a tile cutter

Well I thought I would share some of my low tech low price options for fret slotting. I was tired of changing blades on my bigger saw table and thought that the humble cut price special tile cutter from Bunnings might be the go. I had used it for cutting pearl and thought a conversion was worth tryi...

Does any one know what actually happens and what benefits are derived from the elevated heating process besides the obvious that there is accelerated moisture loss?

Here is my ten cents worth! If the back bracing is not tied into the sides/linings then there will be more movement. Too much movement might mean structural failure. As I see it the back plate I believe acts like a reflector of sound so if there is too much movement perhaps there will be a loss of s...

Hi Martin,

Does your x brace sit on the centre seam or through it? Does the numbering relate to plate thickness?

Headplate Burls Morrel & Eucalyptus Vasi....?

Headplate Options I have two types of burls from which I have been able to resaw headplate width slices which could also be resawn into matched pairs. All the pieces will need to be stored to season slowly. I will end seal all the material before shipment. There will be some degrade which will reqi...

The moitsure loss is too great My recommendation would be to wrap the set in plastic to slow the rate of moisture loss and possible allow it to release moisture by having a small opening. If a crack has occurred you could drill a hole at the end of the crack, if it is not in the template area, and ...
