Busato guitar
I found something that I find interesting regarding "Selmac" style guitars here. Busato guitars are the legendary offshoot of the French/Italian school of jazz guitars, the main base of the original luthiers being in Mirecourt France. There is quite a lot of info on the page I have posted re Busato....

Where did you get the limewood? I want some for solid linings. That was the species used on the original Selmer Maccaferris.

Re: Current Build - Falcate Braced Multiscale OM cutaway
So nice to see! Have you tried using an old pressure cooker for the vacuum impregnating? Assuming you have a vacuum pump...Also I noticed tearout on the soundhole post routing...sanded away I assume. I have been using Kyocera diamond bits in my dremel, they minimise that issue, if you haven't heard ...

Re: Binding cutter-comments please
Martin I am not sure who you are asking, me or rocket. The jig you have and the one I have works roughly the same way, with a guide running against the guitar top. It could be modified to accommodate quite high arching. My current OM build has a 25ft top raduis and my jig is fine for that. Here is a ...

Re: Binding cutter-comments please
My other comment re the US made jig is that, given its cost, if I can make a guitar, I can make my own copy of the same jig out of wood or scrap aluminium and some tired old bearings from a re built power tool! I need to put my money into wood, finishes and guitar fittings. Mario Maccaferri made all...

Re: Binding cutter-comments please
On my jig, the bottom bearing is adjustable, the top one is the standard set of interchangeable bearings that came with the cutter. ie. change the top bearing then align the bottom bearing, which runs in a tongue and grooved guide channel. The locking screw goes into the threaded brass rod that can b...

Re: Binding cutter-comments please
I understand that, Martin. The jig I have made works on the same princible. But what I am thinking is, why not an extended shaft trimmer bit with double bearings,ie. you change both of the bearings. It would eliminate the need for a jig, and the cost would still be less than the cost of a jig! Even w...

Binding cutter-comments please
I have been using the LMI binding cutters in a router trimmer with a base I made that has an extra guide bearing, which effectively gives two guide bearings which ride along the guitar sides binding_pic1.jpg Untitled.jpg Untitled.jpg . One bearing is on the binding cutter, the other on the trimmer b...

Re: The big difference between amateur and pro luthiers
Some of these posts have a beautiful humility about them! A true Master understands the strength of humility, and a true musician or instrument maker understands that undefinable magic of a master's work- that undefinable unmeasurable quality that brings the work to life-emotionally. Profesionally s...

Re: Amplifying a nylon string guitar - best options
My opinion for what it's worth. From a guitar player's perspective.Piezo pickups "quack". I have never heard one that doesn't to some degree or other. Position is so important, and it is worth while experimenting if one is going to use them. People seem to love the K&K- I have one in a Gypsy Jazz gu...

I am only just getting interested in CNC machining. I would appreciate as much input (pun intended) as possible! Here is something I found on YouTube:

Re: Advice sought, cnc a joint for scarfing
Might I suggest that you research Japanese carpentry joints. I feel that the philosophy would be ideally suited to CNC machining...the main purpose of a strong joint is to maximise glue surface area and to minimise weakness due to the grain running in the wrong direction relative to shear forces. Al...
