Flame Maple & Red Spruce Jumbo
I hope everyone is safe and well! I know there are too many large guitars in the world but the customer gets what the customer wants. This one has the kitchen sink, arm bevel, rib rest, manzer wedge. I am very happy with the result tho: Specs Soundboard: Red spruce (thanks Martin Turner) Back, sides...

Re: Acoustic Bass Guitar Lattice Brace
I am building with a huon pine S/B. Wouldn't have been my choice but that is what the owner wanted. The target thickness came at 3.2mm. With my design, I have minimal changes in the string height from the SB at 14mm. I have heard a falcate bass a few years ago right when I started building. There ar...

Re: Acoustic Bass Guitar Lattice Brace
I am building a 34in falcate braced acoustic bass at the moment. When I looked at the string tension of four strings, they sit at about the same tension as a 6 string guitar so I have left the bracing height pretty much the same as a falcate steel string.

Re: New Luthier Tips du Jour video - Installing kerfing without
With reversed kerfing you can also run a piece of tape on the non-kerfed side and it if it does break, the tape keeps it aligned and the break isn't apparent. The tape peels off easily once you tape the clamps off.

They look like the drip bags when I’m hospital. Maybe you can get enough cheaper via a medical supply place

Looks great! That cutaway looks like a serious bend, well done It also looks like you don’t have a taper or radius on the back. I don’t know anything about Grellier, do they make ‘em flat?

I’ve really been enjoying supple jack (native desert wood) but terribly allergic to it and have to make sure I’m well masked when dealing with it

Re: Study comparing FRC to subjective experience
I think 'worthless' is a bit harsh but yeah I don't find it compelling. I am glad someone is trying to fill some gaps after all science is a conversation by iteration. The player being able to see the instrument is a concern but also no mention of set-up etc. How do you know the player isn't respond...

Re: Spectrum change with age
I have no idea how the spectra would change but I'll add some thoughts I've had on age and settling in. I remember in Nigel Froster's ebook, he mentions UV light increasing stiffness, which would certainly affect the frequency response. So aged guitars would slowly increase their UV exposure. Torrif...

Re: Amateur mess up, do I start over or make raised fretboard...
What type of guitar are you making? I assume a steel string? More than an 8m radius is not necessarily a problem, the important thing is the neck projection at the saddle. Hold straight edge on your neck block and measure the distance at the saddle position. At this stage, I aim for 2.5mm projection...

Re: Flamenco blanca - lutz & leyland cypress
What is the head stock angle and did you increase it to suit the Perfection pegs? I am assuming that as the string pegs are 90 degrees to the head stock face and the wound string remains above the plane of the head stock the break angle of the string over the nut would be less than with conventiona...
