Re: B/wood parlour

Nice! How is the armrest attached, magnetised? Also, the endgraft is interesting with the asymmetrical end to the sides and with an ebony inlay. I feel like there is a story there. Anyhoo, very nice instrument :cl :cl

Thanks Steve. Nice demos, as usual.

No glue squeeze-out with your vacuum clamping pictorial?
Had the exact same thought.

Thanks again Steve for the great tutes

If you are using it for comparing one guitar to another then you would need careful note of any tweaked setttings

The proportions boggle my mind. Also really interesting that you add the purfling lines before you carve the rest.

Home/workshop recording studio setup help

So I have been thinking about recording samples of guitars on something a bit more professional than my iphone and setting up a recording setup. It would be just to record samples of my guitars so I don't think I need much but I really don't have much of a clue. I don't mind investing in a good setu...

I know Andrew's school which he started 4 years ago was really boosted by a television interest story and a radio story on local public radio http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-08-22/music-lovers-taught-to-build-guitars-in-brisbane/7771654 when he was starting out. 3. Supersoft or fabric softener often helps with difficult woods.
I would be careful with big open grain and supersoft. We had a silky oak side all but disintegrate using a bending iron and supersoft.

Oh wow, I have never seen binding so cracked and faceted. How thick were they and what procedure (temp/water etc) did you use?

Measuring beyond the decimal place for distances >600mm

I have bought a 610mm engineer's straight edge that I thought was guaranteed to be accurate to +/- 0.025mm. But that turns out to be for its straightness, not its length. So now I am wondering the best way to measure my straight edge to an accuracy for setting up a full nut/saddle compensated setup?

Re: Lutz/Blackheart Sass Hybrid Nylon, venetian cutawy & arm bevel

Trent did you make any modifications to the bridge design after you failures? I notice the "valley" between the tie block and the saddle ramp doesn't extend all the way across the bridge top. Yes the 2nd bridge really threw me and had me thinking hard about making sure the 3rd one stuck. The 1st on...

Drill using a depth stop, then rout the channel to expose the holes. That way you avoid any breakout from drilling the holes

Re: Lutz/Blackheart Sass Hybrid Nylon, venetian cutawy & arm bevel

Lovely work Trent. Lots of nice individual touches. Well done with the 18 hole bridge. It creates such a clean look and good function. When I tried it once I got a good functional outcome, but mine doesn't bear close inspection of the regularity of the hole placement. Did you develop any good trick...

Thanks all. Pretty happy to have it off my bench with 2 bridge failures for that one finally stayed on. As for the sound, to tell you the truth I am having a hard time telling any difference to Englemann. It is a little thinner at 2.1mm target thickness for what it is worth but how that translated i...
