King Billy Pine as Bracewood

What a coindidence! I thought yesterday of putting up a question on suitabiilty of King Billy for bracing & just saw the same question for West Red Cedar.
I have a 1m plank of very stiff tight grain King Billy and was wondering if anyone has any experience with this.

For what it's worth, I do the same thing for shaping brace ends and bridge wings on my home made drum sander,as I don't own a belt sander (yet). I have never used a commercial drum sander, so don't know if the feed mechanism can be turned off, but with the home model, I control the feed, and it work...

blanket

Thanks gents - I understand how this works now. I will order one of the basic MEI blankets. Jeremy - do you have a contact email address for Jim Foote or should I just place an order via the MEI site? I am happy to include a couple of orders from others in the shipment if there is interest - again, ...

Frank I really don't think you need the controller for the blanket. I made one from a Dick Smith kit and it's still attached to the blanket when I bend but I don't use it at all. Bob & Jeremy - only just saw your replies. Jeremy - I see the difference now - didn't fully appreciate it before. Bob - ...

Heater controller

..gets me wondering about other options. eg. water bed heater pad & controller - available on ebay for $20.
Pads are rated at around 350W, but the controller may not be limited in this way - don't know. I need to find an electrician.

Humidity control

Melbourne humidity is generally pretty good for building. I bought a DeLonghi dehumidifier during my first build because the pre-reading I had done had created this impression of how crucial humidity control was. I was almost paranoid about it and had the unit running constantly for months during my...

MEI's controller is in the $500 mark. In my case, I would probably find it safer to buy controller & blanket from the one supplier, as I don't have any electrical skills or mates (electrical mates that is). In that case, LMI is looking reasonable... 240V controller : US$140 240V blanket :US$134 ada...

Melbourne Guitar makers festival

I went along for a couple of hours on Sat and then again for a concert on Sat night. It was great. I think they considered it a big success - lots of visitors throughout Sat and full house for the concert. Lovely work by the exhibitors of course. While I expected they were primarily there to raise t...

Hi everyone - have just started to try and keep up with anzlf posts daily - impossible on olf. So here is my first contribution. I am pretty new at this so my offering is nothing flash - I am still trying to make a good basic dreadnought. I have just finished the bindings on the two dreadnoughts bel...

Local rosewood bridge pin supplier

I need a couple of sets of rosewood bridge pins, preferably unslotted. Alternatives offering similiar colour would also be ok. Does anyone know if I can get them in Australia? I know I can get them from LMI, but shipping costs more than the pins.

I plan to get some fibre glass rods (sick of breaking the timber ones) and found this past post. I would appreciate your thoughts on 2 things - rod thickness and length. I am surprised at the variation in rod thickness used by people. eg. 6mm in the above post, while the stewmac rods are 12 x 8mm, s...
