Just remember to drill the holes for the tuner posts before cutting the slot and cut the slot with the head a little over thickness as it is likely that there will be some tearout on the back of the head when drilling the holes to roughly cut the slot cheers graham Important advice. To minimise tea...

You could do it with either guide bushing and a straight cutter and suitable jig or with a bearing/bit set. With the guide bushing you just have to make allowance for the bushing when positioning the jig. I bought a full set of different sized bushings for my router. Each bushing has an internal and...

Kim,

Pin popping was because I dont have ramps cut in my bridge pin holes. String was coming up to tension with ball not properly seated.......I was able to tell when the ball seated by the cracking sound the pin made as it bounced off the ceiling.

Thanks mate. Ill pay you back in pins with next Stewmac order.

The extra pins will come in handy.....an hour ago two of the buggers shot out of the bridge on the 12 string, bounced off the ceiling and disappeared behind a pile of tonewood. That's four of the buggers that have done that so far.

I did a guitar building course a few years ago and the venue was actually a high school woodworking room at a New Zealand high school. Most of the hand tools we used were straight off the racks in the woodwork room, we just had to make sure they got a good sharpen before we used them. The machines w...

Root cause is relying on working out intonation myself with nut slots not cut to final depth (= strings too high) and then positioning saddle slot based on same. So, what do you think has been the stuff up Martin? String hight? I'm not trying to rub it in, just hoping not to make the same mistake.

Okay, Ive got the saddle fitted and have been fiddling with intonation on bass E pair, top E pair and the G octave pairs. All intonate ok with exception of string 11 (low E slightly sharp) which needs to go back a fraction on the saddle and the G octave (string 6) that is right at front of saddle an...

Okay you can stop bldi panicking you guys. I've routed the slot but its a bldi 5.5mm wide saddle so there's heaps of leeway for ridge positon on top of same. Yes the nut slots are way high. I dont cut them down to final depth until saddle is in. I rough out intonation only to work out where to cut t...
