Re: Queensland Maple and Queensland Maple?

Hi Pete Don't blame us mate, the common names given to Australian timbers came from your mob when they colonised this land. Queensland maple - Flindersia Brayleyana is not a true maple - Acer spp. In younger tress the heartwood can be a pinkish colour and brown to mid brown in mature trees. The grai...

Hi Ross

For router bits/end mills try Adam's Bits on eBay.

Hi Joseph

A little bit off topic but I notice that you make reference to the Albany climate so I assume that you live nearby.
Were you aware that there is an active group of luthiers in Albany and they are members of this forum?
Perhaps the Administrators could put you in touch with them.

I received an order from StewMac a few weeks ago and was charged a tax of 10% of the value of the order. This tax was itemised on the invoice under Ohio Tax. Previous invoices from StewMac have not shown any such tax. :( :o

Hi Nigel

Welcome to Os.
+1 Michael Connor (Localele) I would suggest a PM to Michael details under membership.
Great collection and knowledge of Australian timbers. In northern NSW not all that far from
the Gold Coast just make sure you have GPS.

Re: alternative fingerboard woods

Hi Trevor

Did you have any issues with using Brush Box? I understand that it is generally regarded
as a challenging timber to work because of the interlocking grain, the high silica content
which dulls cutting edges and the natural waxiness which can make it difficult to glue.

Re: Les Paul Style Electric Guitar

Hi Alan That forum member is Fisherman (Peter) and it was his FE-17 style guitar, a lovely little guitar, that inspired me to make one. I am following the plans and details for the FE-17 that Peter provided but I am not trying to make a replica. Too much inlay work for me for a start. If you are mak...

Very classy Allan, a nice piece of work. What timber did you use for the back and sides?
How is the FE 17 style classical going?

Thanks Rod and Allen for your advice. Thought I might have been on to something that is relatively cheap
compared to Aqua Coat or epoxies and sands off easily.

Pore Filling - Sanding Sealer

I know this is a contentious topic and there are many options covered in previous posts on this forum. I am just wondering if Feast Watson sanding sealer is suitable to use as a grain filler for acoustic instruments. If not why not considering that epoxy is commonly used? Dulux (Feast Watson and Cab...

Re: Wood identification?

Hi Craig

Welcome to the forum at last. Looks like Queensland maple to me. I used some of the off cuts
you gave me to make this baritone uke. Would be happy to take more if you are giving it away
it was a lovely timber to work with. (Yes you are on my list).

Looking good Peter, very inspiring. Was the tornavoz fitted before assembly
or was it a retro fit after the top was glued down?
