Re: Figured Maple
Two lovely looking guitars, Dave. I built my last classical using maple and loved using it. These are very classy looking instruments - the bindings and purflings match nicely with the maple. Im glad you are enjoying the tone. If you dont mind me asking, did you edge thin on this one? With my Torres...

Congratulations - thats a beautiful looking guitar! I love the look of that Bunya soundboard. If it sounds as good as euro spruce.... well... thats very interesting and i’d be keen to give it a go on an upcoming build...

Underwear, visas... we are way off track now! Now my brain has gone back to a joke I heard years ago on the radio... Two Africans in the visa line are looking to enter Australia. When they get to the desk the clerk asks the first what skills he has, because Australia has a policy to only bring in sk...

Fantastic looking guitar. I hope there will be more classicals like this in future that depart from the norm! I love all the design elements, beautiful work.

Re: Well, here we are, what now?!
Forgot to mention. Australian red cedar - Toona ciliata var. australis - is almost identical to spanish cedar (and both mahoganies... go figure!). side by side very hard to tell apart. Only thing is to be careful with the dust. Pretty easy to track down qrtr sawn boards at lumber yards or timber sho...

Re: Well, here we are, what now?!
Welcome! Wonderful news and it sounds like everything is falling into place nicely. For neck wood i would highly recomment qld maple - lovely stuff and grows in qld... if u find a good source for it id be keen to know as i am looking to get some blanks. Silkwood may be another good local option. I u...

Torres bracing. I’ve had good results with this bracing layout and the smaller body shape.
I am not a fan of epoxy - the main reason i have steered clear of CF and falcate bracing so far...

Re: Spruce/maple 1864 Torres 'inspired' classical
Thanks! Yes, as is the bracewood - from Graham Hein at Kootenay Tonewoods. A while back when I bought a bulk lot of tops I accidentally ordered a bunch of bracewood by adding 20 pounds to the order rather than 20 dollars, but the upside is I am set for great bracewood for a long while! While it cant...

Spruce/maple 1864 Torres 'inspired' classical
Strung up my latest build tonight.... Maple/spruce 1864 Torres “inspired" classical guitar, including a mini tornavoz. I really like maple. Slightly shorter scale length - 636mm rather than the standard 650 and a 12 hole tie bridge. Bloodwood bindings, stripey blackwood bolt on neck with a truss rod...

One of the bearings on the router carriage failed recently and they sent a replacement free of charge express... even though i purchased it second hand ages ago! they are really super from an after sales perspective (although im a pretty fre...

Truss rod installation
Hi guys Im hoping to get some advice about truss rod installation before I install on on my current build. Is everyone glueing the bottom of the truss rod into the slot? If so, are you using epoxy? Would silicone be a good alternative option or is there a reason it needs to be a stronger bond (im no...
