Re: Bandsaw recommendations

My first bandsaw was a Carbatec 14 inch that I needed to change all the guide bearings on after a couple of years, I still have that machine and run a small blade on it for cutting small work and contouring. The other bandsaw is the 3hp Laguna 14lt which runs on single phase and has ceramic guides w...

Inside mould

Has anyone seen or heard of an inside mould being used on a guitar build? similar to that of violin or double bass moulds. Most violin makers use the inside mould but i have heard of some using the outside mould. Pro's that i can think of is no need to for inside bracing/ spreaders and i think the s...

Re: Glue not sticking

Thanks everyone for your advice I have cleaned all remaining glue from relevant surfaces and wiped down with Shellite and re closed this box using Titebond this time and progressed on to routing binding channels, no sign of the top lifting off this time.

Re: Glue not sticking

Just wondering if maybe the heat from the HHG helps draw the natural oils of the Huon to the surface? Just saying!

Re: Glue not sticking

Thanks Steve, yeah i thought as much although i've used Huon a couple of times and not had any issues with it but on those occasions i used Titebond and not the HHG i wonder if that is a contributing factor? i wouldn't have thought so.

Glue not sticking

Hi all, has anyone experienced something similar to this? Closed the box on an archtop recently, Huon pine on Blackwood using HHG but the bloody top didn’t stick very well, on inspection with a thin blade it popped right off, glue adhered to the sides and lining ok but nearly no evidence of glue on ...

Re: Guitar sides

The main advantage of a laminated side....you don't need to use a full thickness set of valuable tonewood. Inside layer can be wood that is less showy. And the other main advantage of using double sides is the extra stiffness it produces and also the ability to add some cf at regular centres betwee...

Re: At last - a water base finish

The thinning is that 70% product 30%water? And how many coats would you apply? With 3220 I use 50/50 so thin coats and up to 10 coats but sanded back in between, except the final two or three.
