Re: Cherry and WRC Parlour sprectra question
Did you close over those string holes in the top when tapping? One of your peaks could be an air freq coming from those holes if the phone is pointed at them... Also i find i dont get good results with finger tapping, for a quick and easy tapper try an eraser on a skewer, just round over one end of ...

Re: Glueing on the Bridge
is there any fully valid reason why the Bridge can not be glued onto the top after the Falcate Braces have been installed and prior to the top even being installed onto the body. I did exactly this on a build last year. Figured it would be a better option as my bridge clamps would not have reached ...

Re: Side bending with Fox bender
You guys and your fancy fang dangle expensive bending machines and complicated sandwiches, with precise temperatures.... :toi Below is my setup. Ready to start bending in 2minutes flat at the precise temperature of "when a spray of water immediately steams off" . Perfectly bend a side to any plantil...

Re: Side bending with Fox bender
2.5 seems a bit thick. Also might have been too dry this would explain the burning. If you're willing to potentially sacrifice the other side, try soaking it for 15mins prior. I freehand bend and find QLD maple (even the highly figured stuff) bends like butter at 2mm and after a short soaking. I'll ...

Cole Clark neck blanks
I'm not usually one to engage in 'bashing' of the factory makers.
But i had a chuckle -

Not many pieces there that would yield a quartersawn neck.

Re: "The Shed" guitar
I was thinking of trying Vimeo out. Is there any significant advantage over YouTube? It seems you have more control over the file size/compression than in YT. What do you reckon? While vimeo has its technical advantages over YT. I recommend sticking to where your users/potential customers are and t...

Re: "The Shed" guitar
Hi Trevor, something to keep in mind is that currently upon first visit to that page the video defaults to 360p, instead of HD - in the case of this video 720p. Therefore audio (and the video, but who cares about that  ) aint the best. Noticeable difference on my not studio quality but better t...

Re: No Frets No Worries
I once did a wiring repair on a cello with a piezo. At the time i didnt have an amp in the workshop, when the owner came in to pick it up i pluged it into my chromatic pedal tuner so he could see a signal was getting through. (I had previously tested the cello through my 100w peavey stack, which was...

Not wise to not do any windows updates in 2yrs. You should at least do the security updates.56nortondomy wrote:I got sick of the updates causing problems so I went into control panel and turned them off, I've had no updates for about 2 years and no problems either.

Re: Fine Luthier's Gallery opening and Gore/Gilet book 2nd Edition launch photos
Two Questions: 1) Who's playing the lute and who made the lute? That is John, John made the lute as a student at the Australian Guitar Making School @ Toronto NSW under the tutelage of Strato. There's some amazing detail in it. Here's another pic: IMG_1798.jpg 2) Where did Trevor get that snappy st...

Fine Luthier's Gallery opening and Gore/Gilet book 2nd Edition launch photos
Hi All, was a great night on the 23rd at the opening of Strato's Fine Luthier's Gallery and the Launch of the 2nd Edition Gore / Gilet books. Thought i'd share some photos of the night and also a short video of the Lake Macquarie Guitar Orchestra conducted and arranged by Bruce Mathiske who performe...

Re: White spirit cleaner
It's often alot quicker cleaning off the residue with Shellite. Some tapes leave a residue that doesn't sand off that easily and during the sanding process the goo gets dragged around and gums up the paper. Some double sided tapes are really bad for this. ohh I see, makes sense thanks. I've never e...

I have some adhesive residue left on the binding after removing the masking tape and I'm just a little concerned if I use the white spirits to help remove it will the be any adverse effect when applying the pre cat lacquer. Re: Rosewood, Spruce, bloodwood classical
Very nice. Will be interested to hear that. What finish did you use Felix? Cheers Richard Thanks. I don't finish my instruments myself - instead find it easier and more economical to pay someone who is setup to do it. I believe he used 30% nitro. Left the pores/grain open as can be seen in the last...

Spots under glue - Myrtle
Joined a back Tonight and upon removing from the jig I noticed these spots under the glue. Looks like mold, has a slight green tinge to it which the camera doesn't show very well. Was only in the jig for ~2hours, seems super quick for mold to form. Environment at the time was dry, around 40% humidit...

As others have said - sharpen. Otherwise i find going around the channels 2 or 3 times with the router helps rid the fuzzy bits.
