So, Eq. 4.5-7 and i have been doing this little dance lately and i can´t figure my head around it... would appreciate some help. It should be said that i had never used a...

Trevor, how can one enroll in one of those (eventual) german courses? I'm definetly interested - if price is not prohibitive.
Thanks,
Miguel.

Re: Boiling sides?
no, Torres´sides were solid wood. they were on the thin side, although i´m not sure every side was in the 1 mm ballpark. he did use side reinforcements, though.Lutherie Gervais wrote:Isnt Torres the first of doing laminated sides ? and that was the reason of having 1mm thick ...

Miguel, Where did you buy the IPC signal generator? Craig Hi Craig! Nice hearing from you. I got it from ebay, it was the cheapest available at the moment. They turn out from time to time. I don´t remember the seller´s name but Markus has kindly provided me with a link to his own source. These are ...

Re: please help me devise a modest chladni setup
right now i´m using an ipc signal generator, like this one: http://www.chescientific.com/edu/product_140.aspx thought i´d have to hook it up to an amp but (at least for the lower modes) the signal is apparently strong enough. i use app on my phone to reality check the frequency values (most of the t...

Re: Calling all Kiwis - What Bandsaws are you using?
can´t help you much, but i think i saw somewhere that Laguna (which in earlier years was importing and re-branding saws made in italy by ACM) was now outsourcing their stuff from either China or Taiwan, but with stricter quality control than the generic OEMs. can´t the Oz laguna dealer help you (htt...

Re: please help me devise a modest chladni setup
Miguel, How is your top supported? Hi Martin, The top is supported with pyramidal foam blocks , a la Al Carruth and i try to put the tip of these under the node lines. I cut the blocks from an acoustic foam panel like this one: http://www.thomann.de/gb/the_takustik_sap80_pyramidenschaum.htm. all th...

Re: please help me devise a modest chladni setup
Thanks trevor. I might buy a new more powerful and smaller speaker when i find one (or maybe i´ll just order it online), but going again at it i found i maybe was using too much gain? turning the volume lower i could still excite the lower modes and managed to find 3 before the woofer turned too hot...

by all means, go and search for them. pear is wonderful wood and worth the effort. just saying it could be harder to find suitable trees than one could´ve first thought.Dekka wrote:Oh well...just a thought.

Re: A geetah in a pear tree?
pear wood is a wonderful, fine textured wood. i´ve never built with it but i carved a lute bridge out of it. I can´t see why it couldn´t be used for guitars (some tonewood dealers offer it). that said, if the trees are from orchards they´re probably from short growing, highly productive cultivars wh...

how´s life in Australia?
well, here (portugal) it´s beginning to suck real bad so i´m beginning to think of alternatives in the eventuality that my wife looses her job (knock on wood). Australia is pretty far away, but i was told the climate in some areas is similar to here, and it appears there is a portuguese comunity aro...
