Re: Grain/Pore Filler

I understand some of the above mentioned ideas may not work as i have very little experience in finishing...

For example i understand that some plastic/ resins may reject being on top of an oil base/ shellac base..

Grain/Pore Filler

Can anyone suggest a clear grain/pore filler that will not get in the way of a Scandanavian oil that i plan to oil a guitar with once the grain has been filled? My plan is to oil the solid body guitar, then cover it with an even layer of white shellac...Then use something similar to a Nitrocellulose...

Re: Labels.

Have you considered making a stamp rather than using computers? I've always liked the idea of doing it the old school "Printmaking" way and printing it with thick, viscous ink from a can by making stamps/ doing a wood cut/ Lino Cut/ or Using typeset stamps. For Melbournians there is a fairly nice ar...

Some Cheeky Fixes

Hey guys i got some solid bodies joined recently as the guy only wanted 25 bucks. While most of the bodies were fine there was one that had a really shoddy join down the centre join line of the drop top. The glue is very noticeable from close up but with the new skunk stripe it should be much crispe...

Archtop Plans?

So i had a brainwave today and thought that it would be a good idea to get an Archtop mold made professionally as i don't have ready access to Bandsaws. APT Laser Cutting in West Heidelberg said they would do the cutting (minus material costs) for $60-100 then all i would have to do is glue three or...

Re: Time to buy my first router - Any tips

I have a one of these: Makita 3216C http://www.exetertoolshop.co.uk/images/catalog/3612Cx_large.jpg They are great once you get use to the weight of the thing (by no means the heaviest of routers though). It has a slow start feature that doesn't twist or break your fore arms when you start it. Speed...

Weirdest Double Bass

What is the weirdest material you guys have seen an acoustic guitar/double bass made from? I mean there are electric guitars made from aluminium, acrylic, fibreglass. Surely someone out in the wide web has made one from a strange substance. See through plastic double bass? Yay? Nay? http://e-blogs.w...
