Cool the board has arrived. Now all I have to do is get it sawn and thicknessed.

Re: Quality of Huon as a tonewood
Bob; I will have enough for about six tops that will have 16.5 inch lower bouts. I think I will do the first with Blackwood and check out the sound. Never done either so it will be new for me. I will definitely be going with Peter's advice in that regard. Anyway.... Too many questions and it will be...

Re: Quality of Huon as a tonewood
Hey thanks everyone. Yes Bob it was Dianne. I will arrange for delivery tomorrow. I appreciate everyone getting back to me on this so quickly. Are there any special bracing treatment I should be considering? Maybe top thickness by comparison to spruce; I.e. thinner due to heavier weight or will this...

Re: Choice of neck for soprano uke
Hey Ian. For what it is worth, I only do bolt on's now. Routing jig is really important so that you get a firm fit and that the joint is perfectly aligned to the body's centre line and perpendicular to the soundboard. After that easy simply and quick.

Quality of Huon as a tonewood
Hi guys. I just got back from a week in Tassie with the Better Half. I called in to a place in Strahan that supplied some tone woods. Anyway there was a board there of Huon smack on the quarter, fairly straight grain, etc. Tapped OK but quite heavy. Has anybody used it with success and yes I realise...

Re: Ebony and gidgee suppliers ?
Thanks Oakey, Lilian and Rod. I will check out all of those contacts, very kind of you all. And Lilian thank-you for the offer. Oakey, since this post I re-contacted one supplier that was not very interested, he said sure thing. Maybe just lip service. I am happy to do somthing joint if there is the...

Re: Ebony and gidgee suppliers ?
Please forgive me Oakey if I am doing the wrong thing here, but I have a similar question about Aussie suppliers of Burr veneers. I have been trying to get the likes of Walnut and Elm burl, but because I want such a small amount no one is really interested. Can anybody point me in the direction of a...

Now here I was thinking it was a gimick and that it was probably something that would struggle in this conservative world of luthiery.

Re: 3D Printing
Hey Nick. This subject is a little off this forum, but the type of thing everybody knows as 3D printing is kind of old hat. :| It has really evolved over the last 8 or 10 years. It is really more accuarately known as additive manufacturing as opposed to traditional subtractive manufacturing. Leno pr...

Re: 3D Printing
Sorry I have been away for a while. I don't personally think this type of thing is ever going to replace the fundamental qualities of wood or anything like that. It may not even revolutionise the craft. But, maybe one of you really creative artisans out there that have a really great idea for a tool...

3D Printing
Hey guys 'n' girls.
I am sure you all know about 3D printing. It has been around for years now. Here is a link http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/20 ... sfeed=true
Does anybody really think it will change guitar building?

Thanks guys. After speaking with Customs I emailed the seller. I am advised he has CITES documentation and appears to be reputable. Aaron Hix. Anybody had any unfavourable dealings?

Re: Cocobola questions
Hi Peter,
I just checked with Aus Customs. They said the particular species is CITES register, as did you Peter, but only for Panama and Guatemala. If its origin is not from there the import must be clearly identified. Very much as you said.
You're the man! Thanks for the advice.

Cocobolo questions
Hi there everyone. I think this will be simple for those here with experience and I need some more of that. I am considering some really nice Cocobola for something down the track. 1. Is Cocobola regulated under CITES? 2. I hear it is difficult to glue because of the oilyness of the timber. If I cle...

Hi Lando. I'll second that. Keep hanging in there. These very esteemed builders are about as passionate as it gets and have seen many a new person set the very same goals as you and answered many an inquiry about this stuff. Passing on years of knowledge and learning, hard won and all just for the l...

Hi Dekka. I generally don't comment mainly because five is hardly enough to give credibility to what someone says. So I hope others with more knowledge back me up in this. I hear what you are saying, 2nd build and all. The thing is what you have experienced is a leason. You really need to control th...

Thanks Dom and Allen. seems very simple. My method of use is suspect though. I really use way too much and have a lot of squeeze out. And mess.
Thanks again.
