Re: Routing Binding channels

Is there anywhere in Australia where I can buy routing cutter bearings? If yes what range of sizes do you recommend?
Ciao
Jim
Carbitool have a few bearings but you wont get a range of sizes like you do with the LMI/Stewmac kits.

I got my 110volt blanket from Blues Creek Guitars. It came with a router speed controller which is the temp controller. The 110volt blanket is not the cheapest option as you need to buy a hefty step down transformer to run it on 240volt power.

Theres another thread where use of a gem cutters abrasive bit is mentioned. This bit would probably cut a nice disc out of shell material.

Me..I just buy my dots from one of my Aussie suppliers.

Each guitar received a few wash coats of the new formula hard shellac, then six 2 pound cut and then two straight from the bottle. I applied with a rubber lightly sanding between each coat. Alan, I think Ubeaut Hard Shellac straight out of the bottle is about a 4lb cut isnt it? Thats pretty thick f...

Bloody marvellous work there Allen. The inlay reminds me of Hanami in Japan......lying drunk under a cherry tree next to a pile of empty sake bottles.

I french polished with Ubeaut Hard Shellac (version 1.0 and had problems). Im now using ultra blonde flakes from LMI.

Ive done 1 classical and two steel strings with frenchy polish and theyre with working musicians and theyre holding out okay.

The previous owner is an idiot....why do people do things like this??? I've lifted a few fretboards off classicals and steel strings and the procedure I use is to run an iron over the fretboard (after pulling frets) and then start carefully prising the board off from each end using a very thin palle...

Im using a Carbatec 14" saw but its fairly average. I put on the deluxe roller blade guides but they arent that hot. In hindsight I probally should have gone with a Jet...I think generally the Jet has the edge on Carbatec equipment.

Not much action from me of late

Back at work here after my two weeks in between hitches. Had to spend most of the time in NZ dealing with family issues. Over that period I think I got into the workshop once and then only to spend 5 minutes staring glimly at the piles of tonewood overflowing from the shelves onto my benches. On the...
