Re: Undersaddle Pickups/

The K&K Fantastick under saddle pickup is great. Much better sounding than the EMG's that I had been previously using.

I use 1260 thinners - no need for the ultra slow (1218) with the sealer.

Re: Server Maintenance

It's essentially financed by me Dave. The server lives next to the desk in my home office and I get to pay the electricity bills and any upgrades that need to be done to the server. I have asked for contributions once before when we needed an upgrade and I'll probably do it again this time as I've j...

Re: Server Maintenance

I hope you blokes got a lot of work done the last couple of days while the server's been down. Trying to upgrade has been a pain in the arse. For the technically minded. I attempted to load the latest version of VMware esxi (6.0) on to the server with the new hard disk. Version six doesn't lik...

Re: Server Maintenance

It's still causing me some grief with lock ups and the forum goes offline but I think this'll fix itself when I migrate it back to the server with the new hard disk. (tomorrow perhaps)

Re: Server Maintenance

The forum is now running on another computer while I replace the hard disk in the server. While I was at it I took the opportunity to upgrade to the latest version of the software 3.1.5 because of the enhanced security features. You'll find it easier to navigate in mobile devices like your phone. It...

Server Maintenance

Hi Everyone

You've probably noticed the forum has been up and down the last week.

I have a failing hard disk in the esxi server that is hosting the forum and it needs to be replaced.

I'm trying to get it done asap so if the forum is offline you'll know why.

Re: mirrotone_satin finish

Yep.

Don't bother with 3220/10 it looks like you haven't sprayed the instrument at all.

3220/30 is the go. Spray it and sand back to 600 or 800.

Don't know what you do with yours but I've had no sink back at all.

If you get too aggressive with a buffing wheel it'll sink back straight away.

Re: Mirrotone sealer

I use it in preference to Z-poxy now. Doesn't shrink back, sand the same day and as Paul says it's a lot easier to sand than epoxy based fillers. Is also very good for drop filling before your top coats. I'll be finishing up a Honduran Mahogany guitar that has been top coated with 3220/60 in the com...

Welcome aboard and good luck with the new business Jeremy.

I'd like to inform everyone that we have decide to afford Jeremy preferred vendor status for his new venture.

Good luck with it. I'm sure it will be a success.

Titebond for me as well.

I try and avoid epoxy as much as possible due to it's it's sensitising effects.

Re: Tonewoods

The tonewoods forum is open for anyone to post information.

It's just that no one has posted about New Zealand tonewoods.

Most of the Australian tonewood entries were done by me (or TJ.Spittle) a while back.

I suspect it may be a protest about the "underarm" incident.

Re: Narrow Body Acoustic Bracing Patter

Or x-brace it like in your diagram. Put in a very fine finger brace either side. And a wide (50mm) bridge plate with no other bracing in the lower bout. Your aim would be to stop the bridge rotating too much by having the bulk of the bridge plate behind the bridge (toward the end block) and placing ...

Re: Put a Tiger in yer tank.

Sounds like you've got it well covered there Bob . I agree with not resawing from green in Myrtle , it's fairly volatile in drying . Other thing I'd add is don't retard the drying too far though . Tiger is fungal and whilst the timber is wet the mushrooms alive . Chris Searle stuff ? Pete No not fr...

Re: Put a Tiger in yer tank.

Myrtle doesn't give up it's moisture too quickly so I agree slow air drying is definitely the way to go.

If that lot were Blackwood I'd be re-sawing tomorrow.

Put a Tiger in yer tank.

Bought meself a log of very green Tiger Myrtle a few weeks back. Looks like it'll yield a few sets. This will take about 2 years to dry before I can re-saw, rack and store for a further 6-12 months. At present it's sitting outside with a tarp over it. It'll get moved inside before the end of the win...

Re: Wipe-on finish for acoustic guitar

Got some good oil on the Aussie Oil last week. You have to shake the absolute shite out of the bottle before you apply it otherwise it will apply with a low gloss. I saw a small box that had one section that hadn't been shaken (mixed) properly and was quite dull. The other section was quite a high g...
