Re: Mini dimensions
Hi Wayne, I don't have "official" measurements, but I just got a nearly face-on pic of the Maton Mini and scaled off known dimensions (page 5 of the Maton catalogue: http://maton.com.au/assets/pdf/Maton_Catalogue_Acoustic.pdf) and got these numbers: upper bout width = 231mm top of body to centre of ...

Hi Paul,
Well, the ABS looks great! So is the veneer on the back of the headplate ABS too? It looks good whatever it is!
Thanks,
GregL.

Hi John, Thanks for the comment! I just love curly timber! Here is another shot, this time the headstock overlay, I used the same curly australian red cedar on that, and you can see a bit of the ringed (curly) western myall fretboard too: 21b.jpg (the timber looks much nicer "in the flesh", I'm not ...

Re: uke build
Hi Col, Thanks for the comments. The paua dots are to hide borer holes in the Red Cedar, the timber was rather "holey" but I just loved the curl, so I did my best to maneuver around the holes and just filled the ones I could not avoid. I think the strings are D'Addario classical guitar nylon strings...

uke build
Hi, I have just finished my first scratch build (concert uke), here are some pics. Not as good quality as most on here (both the uke and the pics!), but I'm happy. Australian Red Cedar back (curly) and sides, Huon Pine top, Silky Oak and Myall neck, ringed Myall fretboard, bridge, nut, Danish Oil fi...

Hi Peter,
Wow! That's gorgeous!
What is the binding? - whatever it is, it looks good with the Blackwood!
How did you find the King Billy to work with?
Thanks,
GregL.

Re: Curly Maple Concert with Gidgee Trim
Hi Allen, That looks incredible!... All your work looks fantasic, but I reckon this one is extra drool-worthy! The curly maple looks magnificent! And the ringed gidgee binding (and rosette with added sapwood) is superb icing on the cake! Is that spanish cedar for the neck? And boxwood bridge pins - ...

Re: Sapele Parlour Guitar
Hi Allen,
Again, that's a nice guitar!
A couple more questions if that's ok!
How is the string tension with the short scale?
Is the bridge also ebony?
Thanks,
GregL.

Re: Sapele Parlour Guitar
Hi Allen,
Gee that looks nice!
How does that size compare to a terz-size guitar? (I think that's a Martin size 5?)
What are the bridge pins made of?
Thanks,
GregL.

Re: intonation jig
Hi Steve, I'm sort of doing both (I think) - using an adjustable bridge at the nut end to work out nut compensation so that a stringed instrument plays in tune (or, more precisely, *better* in tune) over the entire length of the fretboard, in any key. Once the intonation is worked out using the adju...

Re: intonation jig
Hi Steve, I made the rig to try out really fine tuning of intonation. I've read over the years (eg Stephen Delft, Trevor Gore) about intonating the nut so that a guitar would play in tune "better" over a larger part of the fretboard. I've always wrestled with guitars (mostly an old Gibson 12-string ...

Hi Wes,
Would you please post a pic of your intonation jig? I'm really interested, I have posted some pics of my jig in the "Jigs & Fixtures" section (viewtopic.php?f=24&t=6406).
Thanks,
GregL.

intonation jig
Hi, The 12-string intonation post by Wes Lewis (here: http://www.anzlf.com/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=6050#p72270) prompted me to post some pics of a jig I have made. Not very fancy, and I haven't even used it "in anger" yet, but I made up this rig to follow-up this intriquing subject. (In the pics, I hav...

Re: Designing 12-string guitars and baritones
Hi Wes, That looks mighty fine! I'm really intrigued by your fine intonation. How did you work out the nut compensations - I have "the books" - do I need to look at them more closely for intonation details? From your figures, there was a total of 17 cents variation (E 5th fret = +5, E 12th fret = -1...

Re: An Introduction and question - two for one special!
Hi Harry, Thanks for the FW info, I'll look for it at the local store. As for "Are you working on an acoustic or electric?", I'm a very slow builder - glacially slow - I've made an electric, a StewMac acoustic kit 000, and am currently slowly finishing a uke. This info is for a possible future "Les ...

Re: An Introduction and question - two for one special!
Hi Harry, Thanks for the info. Where did you get your Feast Watson Floorproof Pro? I could only find FW Floorclear on the Bunnings website. (I'm in a regional area, so anything more exotic than Bunnings I have to get online). Also, it seems that FW recommend not using FW Floorproof Pro directly on f...
