Re: Hollowbody electric

Hi Rod,

Geez that looks nice, Rod!
Are the blackwood pickup "surrounds" to raise the pickups to the right level?
What sort of bracing (under the top) does it have?

Thanks,
GregL.

Hi Allen,

Looks gorgeous - as usual!
That cutaway looks great!
Any comments about the stone? I have often wondered about using (recon) stone for dot markers, etc.

Thanks,

Hi Mark, The photo is upside-down on my PC (ie non-Mac) computer AND my Android (ie non-Mac) tablet. I seem to recall that this issue has been mentioned on this forum before (here at least: http://www.anzlf.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=8121&p=87223&hilit=upside#p87223) - I can't remember if any resolutio...

Hi Allen,

Another gorgeous uke!... again! That fiddleback Blackwood looks sensational (to me)!
One question, if I may:
How do you load the strings into the bridge? (Apologies if you have already explained this - maybe I've forgotten... not unusual for me!)

Thanks,

Hi Jim,

That looks bueat!
A couple of questions, if you don't mind:
- what are the neck laminations? I can see a couple of Silky Oak (Casurina), but what else?
- what bracing style and timbers did you use?
- did you use a trussrod/carbon fibre rod/s in the neck?

Thanks,
GregL.

Hi Rod,

Looks gorgeous, as usual! Well done... again!
What is the neck timber? Laminations of bloodwood(?) (same as heel cap) and (?). And how did you do the blending of the bloodwood(?) lamination and the veneer at the back of the headstock?

Thanks,
GregL.

Hi limehills,

I agree with Martin - humidity change. What's the weather been like near you lately?
And also - what sort of Mahogany is that?

Thanks,

Hi Mark,
Looks great!
How is the tremolo? It looks like it's integrated with the bridge - which looks like it has roller saddles? Very neat and tidy looking!
Nice short scale - bet it's easy to do bends.
Thanks,
GregL.

Hi Ross,
Have you thought about a terz (Martin size 5) guitar? Ex-admin Bob Connor built one (see here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2867&p=35047&hilit=terz#p35047), I'm (slowly) building one from LMI plans. Scale length approx 21".

Is the Aust Red Cedar from Boutique timbers? From the same batch as your Les Paul Junior build (you posted in August 2018)?
Thanks,

Hi Andos, Very interesting! You certainly put your metal-working skills and experience to good use (not to mention the metal-working machinery!) If possible, could you please include pics of your cutter tool and scraper tool in your next installment. I have a circle cutter and scraper made long ago ...

Hi Allen,

What is the top wood?
I have some high curl Satin Box (did you get yours from curly?), and you say it worked well? How do you bend it?

Thanks,

Re: Well, here we are, what now?!

Hi Nick, Welcome! Firstly, you will have to come to terms with WAY more humidity and humidity swings than you are used to! (ie we had 70% RH range a few days ago!) Second, Carbatec seems to have basic tools at reasonable prices - I'm sure there's one in Brisbane. And local mail-order only takes abou...

Hi Allen,

Stunning!
I love any curly timber, but especially curly blackwood! And you've done justice to that curly blackwood!
Is the bracing blackwood too?
May I ask where you got the timber?

Thanks,
GregL.

Thanks for the suggestions. Here's a pic of the timber:

I'm thinking of slicing it up for B&S for a terz (ie Martin size 5).
I'll cut the sides thin and soak in hot water and fabric softener and try to bend by hand on an iron.

Thanks,
GregL.

I've got a lump of highly figured Queensland Maple (Flindersia breyleyana) and was wondering how it bends?

Hi Trevor,

What is the fretboard timber (both)? It looks like ebony - did you have any customs questions about ebony? I thought ebony was on CITES?

Hi Dennis,

Welcome, and I have a question:
Is it an "ordinary" banjo, or does it have a shorter-than-banjo neck? Tenor banjo, maybe, or banjo-ukelele?

Thanks,
Greg Luker.
