Golpeador material/options
Hi All, I am getting close to finishing my first flamenco and will soon need to start thinking about the golpeador. I have been using the stewmac clear self-adhesive mylar for pickguards and string guards (just below the tie block). Is this the material ok for a golpeador. Do people have alternative...

Re: New build advice, on plans I've drawn.
Hi Martin, I would think 110mm depth is quite deep. You may like to have something more like ~85mm at the neck and ~95mm at the tail. As Allen said the waist is tight, so will be a challenge. Also speaking of challenge, a cutaway introduces a lot of thought and work on a first build. If you don't pl...

Re: Homemade fret/fingerboard leveller
I saw a cheap one on etsy the other day. I haven't bought one so I can't speak to the quality etc but the price is very appealing: https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/275466570/fret-leveling-aluminum-beam-luthier-tool?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=luthier...

Re: Spectra question
You can use a online generator on your phone like this http://www.szynalski.com/tone-generator/ or one of the million apps available to a blue toothspeaker as a stop gap. I find they work ok if you have a loud BT speaker and or on the lower frequencies like you are looking at. I don't believe it the...

Re: Spectra question
I was of the understanding that the dip is a frequency where the top is not excited. So if you were to do clandi patterns, no tea leaves would be hopping at 201hz. I may be wrong on this but the reason it is so low is two shouldering peaks are coupling to push the dip lower. On the higher side the t...

Nice Steve. Great sound and I am looking at your heel profile with envy and thinking I need to make mine sleeker.
For all the time I spend in the workshop, I swear my building is getting slower.

Wonderful looking guitar Allen. The wood from Pete is so great that I have to check my bank account balance before I open Instagram these days. I like the cedar gidgee combo and your photos are looking really nice showing both how nice the wood is and your finish.

Re: Maple or Sycamore for purfling
I am sure others will weigh in, but I wouldn't have made a decision on aesthetics and deal with any of the problems that may have arisen from that. A single purfling is going to be very easy to deal with despite the hardness and bending a single strip on a cutaway would be relatively easy. So much s...

We all make mistakes I don't mind owning up ( when I get caught out  ) . The arm rest is glued on Trent.
