Re: Mass loaded top
...My point was not really that there is a difference in the display, but merely that it may or may not reflect the achieved result of increased sustain. Ah. Well, this is very different to how I read your post and I could have saved my fingers a lot of typing! What effect those frequency...

Re: Mass loaded top
...you have struck the string a fraction harder and the resultant decay is indicative of that fact... Not so sure on that Steve. To the best of my knowledge/understanding, the difference in amplitude is quite possibly as you suggest. Assuming however, that the other results are averaged in each mod...

And one more Jim... ! Randomly came across this one today that 'looks' much more like yours, but I doubt it is attached in the same fashion. Possibly just a set neck but don't know for sure... Re: Feedback please.
Yeah, I thought of Ken Parker's designs too - but thought the whole design might be too far afield from what Jim is doing. But then in reference once more to the Fender design that inspired you to a heel-less neck, I thought of Graham McDonald and his Bouzouki's too. This was the best image I could ...

Re: Feedback please.
Hi Jim. Gabriel Ochoteco (of Ochoteco Guitars Brisbane) does his necks similar to this on every model he makes. He has done so for a very long time - like 20 years? bcutl.jpg cut.jpg I doubt he would be continuing with the design if it were failing! So I certainly think it can be made to work with c...

I am seriously loving that 'Ancient Spruce'.
An amazing colour to offset with. Really opens up some options and you're exploiting it to good effect.
Lovely.

Wow. Well, I've been absent from the forum for a while only to return and see this. Your builds were never lacking Allan, but somehow you seem to have stepped it up another notch in the past six months or so. I guess that's the aim in continued building... Great colour combos. Congrats. Beau...

Actually Trev, this is an older one (late last year) that was dug up by a member, due to a question on Ziricote. If I remember correctly, you were in fact the first to comment, very graciously I might add, on it. Meh, but I'll take your second compliment anyway! :D Unfortunately due to some h...

Re: Six String Tenor Ukulele - Pic Heavy ...
Hi Markus and thanks. The material on the tie-blocks is just some fancy Marbled/Pearloid Acrylic Polymer type material I had around. Not something I usually use, just thought I'd give it a try on this occasion. The inlay inset on the top of the tie-block is Amboyna Burl. And cheers Soulman. Jeremy.

Re: Six String Tenor Ukulele - Pic Heavy ...
Well, much as Allen has said. I've done a few in Ziricote now. My sides were all about 1.8mm when bent too. Bending itself went without a hitch with a heat blanket on form - that is, no fractures or creasing etc, though as Allen says, it is tougher. It does not just 'want' to bend as other timbers d...

Allan is on the money with that link. I had a quick look for it last night but could not locate it. Bill @ Pegheds.net is indeed where I sourced this set of Pegheds. There are many options to choose from and more being created. This set is one of the latest incarnations - it has a new cut and finish...

Thanks gents. 8) Truly appreciated individual comments. Very generous ones at that... Allen - well, I hope mine does not end up on your bench too! Six String Tenor Ukulele - Pic Heavy ...
Hi All. Another commission; another uke... A little different this time round though. This is the first six string Tenor Ukulele I have had commissioned, or made. It is not six individual strings or notes like a Guitalele, as the pictures will show. Two courses are octave doubled like some Bouzouki'...

Re: Manuel Ortez 1972 Classical
I'd be guessing a mahogany or even a Shorea sp. with a dark stain. Mahogany, possible. In some respects it does resemble it - not so used to seeing dark streaks through mahogany like that but that's not to say it does not occur. Shorea? Like Meranti?? Well, they are all guesses - who knows? Certain...

Nice score Jeremy. Looks to me like the top has lost its arch under bridge..possibly humidity related like you say. Is there a bridge patch? Yes - a very small spruce one. Initial investigation suggests it is still sound, as are the braces. When time allows, I'll remove the bridge and see what it l...

So it was that I was wandering around the market on the weekend just gone... Now by habit, I always check the guitars at any stall - just for interest if nothing else. The vast majority of which are of course, very cheaply made plywood Korean or Chinese jobs. Occasionally I'll come across an older J...

Re: A clean, no-binding look
Dave, I think Christian does it slightly differently. From memory, he runs a bevel on the edge around the top and the rims, so that they seat into each other. It's a very clean look with no exposed end grain. But I'm afraid, I too prefer to bind. I prefer the look and as Allen mentioned, the protect...

Amazing stuff.
Out of interest, were these 'rough sawn/unrefined' pieces, or finish sanded/scraped - but without a finish applied?
Jeremy.
